Title says it all. Personally, I'd chuck the remaining 788 orders and purchase Kingfisher's old aircraft (half their old fleet is randomly lying around in Delhi).

Well, really, bankrupting it would not be a good strategy at this point, especially it being the national carrier and heavily government-involved carrier of India.

Concerning the Kingfisher aircraft, I think most of the serviceable ones have left. iirc from somewhere I've noted that for some of the fleet maintenance records were missing and so the aircraft will just have to sit and rot at the airport their at now, due to being legally unflyable.
Concerning AI themselves I'd probably sell off or scrap the 77Ls, continue with what orders are coming through and probably try to structure the airline to take PAX through the main routes from Europe/ME/Asia.

Internationally-Get an American Code Share partner, I know by me people are always heading to India. They never go Air India simply because in a place like KC or any other place who would think of flying Air India over Delta etc mainly because people wouldnt know you could fly it.
Domestically-Add more feeder flights with Air India Regional on A/C no bigger than the CRJ-200.

I'd think that BA would be quite willing to sell its 744s to AI so they can use them in high density config to the ME.

i start to make air India as Long-Haul LCC with better services:
- lower ticket prices
- simple tasty food (salad, main dish, no butter, no bread, no dessert, little alcohol/beer only)
- more seats in airplane (10 abreast in 777) and 30" - 32" seat pitch
- eliminate 1st class and reducing business class seat to increase economy class seat capacity
- Stop buying 787
- Start buying A380, 777-300ER, and A350-900/1000
- Retire their B747-400 and their B737-200 cargo
- Replace A319 with either A320 or preferably A321 and install new engine and sharklets
- Replace A330-200 with A330-300 (A330-300 have way lower fuel consumption)
- New IFE and new sleek Seat design to saving weight
