I posted something similar on another forum which basically called for players themselves leasing out planes as they plan to retire them. It would create a very competitive market like the bloodbath (e.g JFK-LHR) routes. Cheaper planes for newer entrants and another steady stream of cash flow for the airliners.

On an asside, i Think we still need old planes on the market after they are fairly obsolete, after all, there's quite a few DC-9s, 737-200s and even some 727s looking for a home in real life.. :/

I agree cause the airline Buffalo airways still use vintage DC-3,4,l-188 Electras,CL-215 & C-46 from around WWII even though they are at least 60 years old

I say each person instead of an airline in the world could be a lessor copmany, they too would buy planes like airlines but negotiate with airlines and lease their planes to make money, so you buy it new from the manufacturer or lease it from an AE player

I strongly disagree that airline can sell/leasing aircraft to other airlines directly!!
Because some player will establish few number of airlines to "supply" planes to the their main airline. Which is unfair and wasting resources (as one play is establishing few numbers of airlines)

On the other hand, I suggest there should be a reveal on the credit system:-
The purpose of the credit system is to keep the player to balance the asset (buying plane) vs lease. However, I think the existing system can not refect this purpose as the credit rating can improve significantly after your have more cash but in fact, the player still do not own any aircraft. If the airline really go into bankruptcy, the cash obviously cannnot cover the leased plane!!

Also, I suggest to incorporate an idea of Administration Charge. From our economic lesson, we know that the cost of an airline will reduce when its scale is growing but we should also know that cost will, on the other hand, raise again when the scale is over the optimal. This is because the scale is too large and causing inefficient.

In the existing beta game, we can easily find that the top few airlines are having over 500, or even 1000 planes!!!! It is not realistic in the real world!!

Rough Figures: UA have 700, DL have 700, Skywest have 700, WN have 700, AA have 600, LH have 700 if you include their subsidiaries, AF-KL have 600. These are all airlines with fleet size over 500 and yes they do exist. I realise that some of these airlines such as AF-KL are 2 airlines and LH is a few but still :P there's still the big american carriers and i could say SU operated 1000 or 2000 planes because they pretty much owned every single aircraft registered in the Soviet Union back in the day.

I agree with your example, but can we further study whether all the aircraft are medium to large size? I believe some of them must be CRJ/ERJ/Q-Series or some other small plane for low demand small city. But right now in AE, some airlines are having 1000 of aircraft while the smaller plane may still be 737/320~~ :S

well because i seriously can't be bothered to check all the airlines i have listed, i will say that the UA and AA figures i have given are for the mainline fleet.

You should be able to choose any plane to start with. Except for large wide bodies. This way, expansion at the start becomes much easier.

Yet another example of unrealistic restriction to make the game "realistic".

The game mechanic itself should make sure you can't fill a widebody on startup.

I dont really know what the problem is, its a game, not a real world. so play with the option that the game gives you or go play another game. or start a life, cuz if you want to make a realistic airline idt youve a social life.

OR.. They can just base it from the current fleet of leasing companies (with just a few aircraft additions for the game since huge airlines tend to buy hundreds)

maybe we should add a nostalgia factor, or we could make leasing companies that can also work as charter airlines.
