Free gates at the beginning

I recognized that one gets 5 free gates at the airline HQ at the beginning. Nonetheless they're immediately removed in the next month if they are not completely used. Given the one leased starting aircraft I find it hard to use all the gates right from the beginning, especially because new aircrafts take some time to come. Maybe one could allow new airlines to keep unused gates a bit longer than usual - just as a suggestion?!
Thanks!

This is a good idea. I think that as long as you pay money consistently for the gate, it shouldn't get taken away if unused. Un1 and/or Yuxi please take note. :

The purpose was to prevent gate hoarding, when gates ran low and airlines would lease the remaining gates to keep other airlines from entering the market. However, for the next version we will consider removing the forced gate return in realistic worlds, where the limit for each airline is pretty low - not saying it will happen, but it's on the table.

Why would anyone need 5 gates to start with anyway? I think a total of 2 gates should surely suffice.
I agree.
Planes I've travelled on:
A319, A320, A330, A380, B767, B777-200, B777-200ER, B777-200LR, B777-300, B777-300ER, ERJ-175,

Good point. Just because it's been that way since the beginning doesn't mean it still makes sense

I know myself I like to set up a hub without the firsttime cost of leasing new gates
