It's got 757-300 capacity with up to 5500 mile range - it's literally a B757-300ER.

It's great for routes from 3300 miles - 5500 miles with under 200 daily demand, and can also work as a high-capacity domestic aircraft as well.

Tl;dr it's literally a 757-300 with extra range that nobody uses for whatever reason.

I like them too but I always use the A300-600RR from that family. Given you can only get one type delivered at the same time from each family, I choose the A300. But I buy them if they come up on the used market.

that doesn't sound right! on R5 a few months ago. I was operating a bunch of different 737s (the -300, -400, -600, & -700) and I ordered them all at the same time. Plus Airbus I have operated A319s, A320s, & A321s at the same time in other airlines. so i don't know if its a special world. or anything else like that?

You can order multiple types from the same family but you can’t get them delivered at the same time.

The -300 & -400 are in the classic family. I'm not sure on the 600 (like, what was it anyway?), but the 700 & 800 models are in the "Next Generation" family. So although the Classics do end, there is a period of time you can order from both families at the same time.

As mentioned above, you can order multiple types in the same family but you'll only get one lot at a time. For example, if you order 10 A319's, & then 10 A320's, you wont get the first A320 until all 10 A319's have been delivered.

I still got 737-500's rolling in while Boeing's delivered a few 737 MAX 8's to me already.

Those guys must love and hate me.

I agree. Whenever I play in a R2, R3, or similar, I always see the A310-200 racking up dozens of orders even after the A310-300's release.

I almost never go for the A310-200, and just wait another three years for the A310-300 instead since the performance is better.

When aircraft like that are released, i.e. A321NEO and A321LR, I just buy enough of the first aircraft to fill the gap and have the deliveries transition to the second aircraft at the first possible opportunity.

A321 NEO, you were so great, but your sister jet is just so much better.

Because it is easily outclassed by both the A300-600 and A300-600R. 22% lower capacity, at best 1 knot faster, with only a 9.5% fuel savings and 17% range increase for the most efficient model of A313 vs the most efficient A300-600R. Sure, it's 25% cheaper, but it's a net loss -- a significant one, at that.

Let's run some numbers here:

The best A310-300 engine is the CF6-80C2A2 in terms of range and fuel burn. With a 55 minute turn time, you can make 6.21 max range round-trips per week for a total weekly ASM of 9,704,636.811.

The best A300-600R engine is the PW4158. With a 65 minute turn time, you can make 7.12 max range round-trips per week for a total weekly ASM of 12,209,836.42.

In total, the A313 will spend 128.61 hours in the air during an ideal week, so at a cost of $0.27 per unit of fuel we have expenses of $1,177,793.87

The A306R on the other hand will spend 124.58 hours in the air during an ideal week, with fuel expenses of $1,260,251.10

This gives the A313 a cost per weekly ASM of $0.121.

The A306R has a cost per weekly ASM of $0.103.

Let's account for the higher price of the A306R by assuming the aircraft is leased and adding maintenance costs. With a monthly lease of $1,333,333 for the A306 and $995,111 for the A313, and with 0 year maintenance costs being 0.3% of the retail price, we obtain the following adjusted CWASM:

A313: $0.1593

A306: $0.1437

This makes the A306 at most 10.9% more profitable than the A313. This will come down slightly due to landing fees being higher for higher-capacity aircraft.

Note as well that with a 28.9% capacity increase, the A300-600R will require 22.4% fewer slots than the A310-300.

In fact, all of the following are, in general, better options (for the same time period):

747-300

A300-600

757-200

Il-86

747-100

Lower capacity, less efficient and shorter range than its direct competitor (767-200ER). It's really best used on lesser-demand long-haul routes but the 767-200ER beats it in range. The A300 can be one of the biggest cash cows in the game if used on the correct medium range routes which makes the A310 redundant in that case. I see plenty of orders for the A310 but often the A300/767 will beat it out.

Rule of thumb for printing money is to go for the largest aircraft from each production line.
