i tried sth: in my sandbox airline (which i kinda abandoned btw) i got myself a 737 800 & a -900. i started operations 14 times week with a stock -800 without any seat config, IFE or IFS. then i did the same thing with the -900.
my initial assumption about the -900 was that, since it was actually bigger but carries the same anmount of passengers it would offer more legroom, resulting in higher comfort -> higher route reputation. - nope
then i had another thought: maybe, since their max capacity is the same but the -900 is larger u can fit more first/buisness class then in the -800 cuz its still below its maximum payload (which actually is limited for the -900 because of the lack of additional emergency escape doors, thats why there is the -900ER with a higher capacity and same hull, they simply added these doors) but i was proven wrong again.
i tried the same with the A350-900 & -1000 (the seating thing) and came to the same result.
so my question is: whats the point of those aircraft? the 787 10 may be s*** compared to the other 787s cuz its much more expensive and performs far less well in exchange for 20 pax but there is SOME difference.
but in the case of the 737 800/900 there is no point of getting the 900 or am i missing sth?
the problem is even more severe with the A350 1000 because u get a more expensive version of the same airplane (a couple of M$ actually are quite insignificant in late game so i dont mind that too much) and, the real issue, u get less of them. the A350 900 is delivered every 3 weeks. the A350 1000 however, an aircraft performing less well and being more expensive acutally gets delivered every 4 weeks.
so whats the point in those aircraft?
just some thoughts on the A350 900R:
and actually whats the point of the A350 900R (i assume the R stands for range) when it does have actually less range then the A350 900. u might argue that R stands for regional, but itd hardly call an aircraft with 9.2k miles range regional (like the 747 400D for ex, which is an actual regional version) so why does this thing exist as well? its more expensive and performs less well!
some more stuff:
there isnt any point in the weird spin offs of boeings "main aircraft" of a family like the 747 400M, the 737 700C and the 757 200M
