Introducing the CTFA - France's leading shipping and passenger company.

zoTZOEi.png

Operating from Le Harve and Bordeaux, CTFA bolsters a large fleet of both Mediterranean and Transatlantic liners. Built in 1913, the Lorraine Class were the largest ships pre-WW1 built in France. The last, Arromanches, was retired in 1936.

In the late 1930s, with competition launching new ships of increased speed and tonnage, CTFA ordered two new Super ships, dubbed quickly the Liberte Class. These ships would dominate the seas for decades with superior length, tonnage, speed, and luxury. Some of the finest ships in the World, the Liberte Class was quick to make a name for itself.

Hello all, my contribution to this role play are 2 of the newest ships in the Columbia fleet. These two Ocean Liners were built before World War 2 for the commercial run to Europe from New York, and were designed to be refittable for war duties as troop/hospital ships to be used by the U.S. Navy in times of war.

Currently under construction:

Name: Constellation

Owner: Columbia Lines

Displacement: 84,000 Tons

Cruising Speed: 28kts

Maximum Design Speed: 33.5kts

CTFA is proud to release the plans for 4 'super' ships, designed to rival their british counterparts in the four stack category. The Lorraine, Cherbourg, Caen, and Arromanches will be constructed in Saint-Nazaire and will be the flagships of the CTFA Transatlantic fleet.

Name: Liberté

Owner: CTFA

Displacement: 86,354 Tons (89,123 Nouveau)

Cruising Speed: 30kts

Maximum Design Speed: 32.3kts

Length: 1033ft.

EIS: 1935

Retired: 1970

SS Liberté and the subsequent Liberté Class Liners were intended to replace the veteran Lorraine class by offering faster and more luxurious Transatlantic service. At 1,033 feet in length, she's longer than the Lorraine class by about 45 feet, and bolsters superior tonnage at 86,354 GRT. However, the Liberté Class is also more adapt at cargo transportation, sacrificing what would be space for 2 decks, leaving her with only 10. Her innovative design allows for a smaller crew of only 860, compared to crews in the thousands on competing ships. She's also the first class of liners in France to have 100% crew centralized quarters in the forward half of the ship, instead of being scattered about. At her initial launch in 1934, she was fitted with 3 propellers, binding her to 28 knots. However in the late 1940s she would become a blue riband winner after an additional screw was added, enabling her to do 31 knots. Her sister Nouveau would also set a record from France to the City of New Orleans, completing the voyage in just 6 days, thus enabling them to transition to the Caribbean market quite easily.
