Inspired by the revitalization of the Aircraft Manufacturer Roleplay, why don't we have one for airports too?

Build the international airport of your dreams, or your little hometown airport with a few daily regional jets. Its up to you.

Rules:

1. Choose a location that makes sense, as in you won't be bulldozing an entire city, suburb, neighborhood or national/state park to build the airport. You can measure distances within Google Maps to determine whether you'll have enough space to build your airport. In your design of the airport, look at real airports using mapping software to see their layouts, and look at the FAA guidelines here for ideas.

2. Provide the details that are realistic in an airport's design and branding. You'll need a logo and gate map at the absolute bare minimum; you can also design ground transport facilities, route and destination maps, airline announcements, departure/arrival boards, timetables, renderings of your airport, and anything else to your heart's desire.

3. For an airline to begin service at your airport, you'll need at the bare minimum a route announcement, preferably in a PR format, with route maps, timetables and new departure/arrival boards to show off the new flights. For your convenience, I've attached a departures board template (GIMP only, sorry :P ) that you can download here.

4. To encourage people to talk to each other and negotiate for routes, no real-life airlines can be used in your airports, however, feel free to use any AE-made brands or your own brands.

Let's see what you can come up with!

Introducing Washington DC's newest airport, Franklin Delano Roosevelt International Airport

DFd3i01.jpg

Roosevelt International is situated 8 miles south of Downtown Washington D.C. and across the Potomac River from Alexandria, Virginia, on the site of theNational Harbor development. The airport opened after a 8-year construction process, and aims to facilitate easier access to D.C. The airport's terminal was designed by British architectural firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, and construction was undertaken by a consortium of American and international companies. The latest security measures have been implemented into the design of the airport, including an expanded checkpoint area for the comfort of passengers and increased security, and individual security stations at gates to be used in coordination with federal and local agencies.

yxXYPQG.png

The airport's design features three concourses, built surrounding a central terminal area which hosts check-in, security, immigration and baggage facilities, as well as airside facilities such as restaurants, shopping areas, an airside hotel, certain airline lounges and an indoor garden. The airport features 101 contact gates, of which gates A18-A28, C1-C8 and B21-B30 are build for mixed-use between domestic and international flights. In addition to the 101 contact gates, gates A1B-A1H are built for regional jet use, and there are 10 stands which board through gate B1A.

kJmnMp6.png

The airport hosts a state-of-the-art intermodal transportation center, creating a regional transport hub not just for air passengers but for ground passengers alike. The airport is linked to Washington's Metro system through new Blue and Green line extensions; the Blue Line operates via. Alexandria and the Pentagon to D.C. and Largo Town Center, while the Green Line operates via. Anacostia and D.C. to Greenbelt, MD. During rush hours, trains to D.C. depart as frequently as every 2-3 minutes, and operate during non-peak hours and weekends at a 5-7 minute frequency. Trains do not operate between 1:30am and 4:30am, however bus service is available to D.C. during this time. Besides the 10 bus stands, the airport also features ferry service to Alexandria, VA, Georgetown University in D.C. and Mount Vernon, VA, all which operate from National Harbor's ferry station which is attached to the bus terminal.

th7yY9O.jpg

MidAmerican Airlines was the inaugural operator from Roosevelt International, operating a schedule of 22 flights from Roosevelt on its opening day, including its first flights to Asia and Europe. The airport is currently looking for other operators in the coming days, and prospective airlines are welcome to contact the airport for negotiations.

Welcome to Roosevelt International Airport, Washington's Global Gateway.

Prospective airlines should reach out over Discord at @n.x.w.m, or via. PM

Coming Soon, Mohamed Nasheed International Airport (Kudarikilu)

.

IATA: MLV          ICAO: VRVM

Maldives newest international gateway and intercontinental crossroads, located in the Northern Baa Atoll. It has an elevation of 2m (6ft) above sea level. The airport will feature 2 parallel runways 3600m and 4000m in length (both heading 06/24). MLV will also feature a 2700m runway heading 16/24.

The airport will have facilities available for large commercial airliners all the way down to small private jets and light general aviation aircraft.

MLV will be linked into the brand new monorail system connecting passengers to the new city - Kudarikilu which will rise from the ocean along with the airport. Bus services and ferries will operate directly from the terminal connecting to nearby local and resort islands.

The airport's design will feature 2 main concourses and a smaller terminal for private passengers (like the new terminal at LAX for VIPs), the passenger concourses will be built around a central terminal in the heart of the new city and will host check-ins, security, immigration and baggage facilities along with an airside shopping and eating precinct, airline lounges and indoor green spaces. MLV will have between 40 and 60 gates which will be used for both international and domestic flights, In addition 20 stands will be available down in the south-east corner of the airfield.

MLV will be equiped with the brand new ILS CATIIIc on all runways and across the airfield. CATIIIc is able to land a plane in zero visibility, but also slow the plane down to exit the runway and taxi to its gate. MLV will be the first airport in operation to put this technology into practise.

Off the north of the airport a brand-new seaplane facility will be built to cater for passengers flying elsewhere in the Maldives.

The privately owned Maldives International Airline (MIA) has expressed interest in relocating it's operations, maintenance facilities and offices from the current major international airport (Ibrahim Nasir Intl. Airport, VRMM, MLE) and from the capital of Male. Several other carriers have also expressed interest in relocating.

The new airport precinct will be built using land reclamation to develop a 128km² (32,000 acres) site building a modern metropolis along with a state of the start entertainment and sports hub boasting a 50,000 seat stadium, 20,000 seat arena, 6,000 seat theatre and 30,000 square metres of exhibition space.

The city (Kudarikilu) will also be home to a state-of-the-art marina and yacht club, cruise ship terminal, medium density residential, waterfront apartments and office towers. A monorail system connecting the city to key places of work, business and the airport. Other facilities included will be tourist precincts, retail hubs, sea-sports area, a 'Heritage Island' (featuring artefacts and a history on the traditional islands in the atoll), a city square, business precincts, urban square, high-end villas, Silicon harbour (An IT precinct welcoming international think hubs and companies to establish a presence in the India/Arabia region), Harbour and Waterfront boardwalk, Pedestrianised Commercial Spine, A mosque in the heart of the island welcoming the religious from across the region, a Mixed-Use Precinct, Community Waterfront, Marina Apartments and a second Presidential Palace.

The project is jointly funded by Chinese and Saudi Arabian Investors in co-operation with the Maldivian government.

Tiraspol Igor Smirnov International Airport (LUTR) is located in northwest Tiraspol in Transnistria.

Having been a dilapidated air force base for many years, the airport has been overhauled and is now capable of handling passenger air traffic.

LUTR has two terminals and a single runway, and is capable of handling medium-haul jet aircraft.

LUTR is the headquarters and base for Transnistrian Airlines, whose fleet consists of two Tu-134s, one Tu-154M, and one An-24.

Currently there are nine daily round-trip flights at LUTR, a total of 18 aircraft movements. This does not include charter services.

Your international flights must operate from the International Terminal / Terminal A while your domestic flights can operate from Terminal B accessible via SkyTram. Tarmac for general parking purposes is available in the area south of Runway 9R.
