Okay I was born in a family that cannot afford my dream job to become a Pilot. I live in the Philippines so yes aviation schools are are really expensive at 3,000,000+ pesos.

Is there anyway I can achieve my dream to become a Pilot? I heard there are a few airlines offering to teach those who want to become one for free but in return you will have to work for them. But most of them are in other countries.

I'll look into this as I know alot of pilots and administrators and managers of airlines and get back to you.

One thing is that you can always start small and work your way up.

I'll get back to you :)

I'm not overly familiar with the process in Asia, however this could potentially be of interest to you.

Money... A lot.

Yep. The problem is I don't have a lot of money :(

Maybe the airforce?

That's the problem. My air force doesn't have that much of an aircraft.

Well, I'm from Greece, so I have the same problem. In Europe there are quite a few schools, but they all cost more than 100k Euros, so it'll be quite hard to get there. My advice would be to do a crapload of research (through people, forums, etc.) or try for a scholarship. Idk how it works for you in the Philippines, but in Greece the military isn't much of an option for commercial pilots, because they have a mandatory period that you have to stay for (more than a decade i think), and to get in the AF from high school (military is mandatory here) your grades need to be excellent.

Excellent grades are achievable if you work hard.

Also, nothing stopping one doing their decade of military service, assuming they are up for that kind of thing of course before becoming a commercial pilot. The captain of the Garuda 421 flight got a scholarship in Indonesia, so was very lucky. Nothing stopping this guy if he really is very dedicated to becoming a pilot, or getting a scholarship

I know they are achievable. I have gotten them on several occasions myself, but anything could happen during the test. Stress can take over etc. It has happened to me. And personally speaking I'm not keen on spending a decade in the military. I'd much rather pay the 100k to get into a school.

Update: I'll be taking a Computer Engineering course in the near future then once I get a job & save money I'll try to enroll on a flight school and build my hours.

My plan is to attend Embry Riddle, which is like a university and flight school in one. It has a high acceptance rate, and it is relatively affordable for my family. You can even work your way up to an ATP license. We dont have a big problem with this in America, and I know that Lufthansa will pay for your flight school if you fly for them. I hope you can get a career as a pilot, cheers!

I worked full time to pay for college. I then worked as much as I could to pay for lessons. I lived cheap and went to a cheap school. I now have all my ratings and a career at the FAA. Work hard and it will pay off.

I'm also from Greece and I'm currently looking into things as I'm close to finishing school. Grades are more important for commercial pilots, less so for the military. As for the mandatory service, I'm not quite sure about it but I don't really care much since I'm going straight to a flight school. In terms of the financial challenges, it's most definitely a real thing but Aegean recently came up with a scholarship program where they offer to pay 50%-60% of the tuition for the best 100 candidates in exchange of working for them for at least three years. That really improves the situation but it's still hard. However, it's been five years since you've posted this so I hope you made it. Πάμε δυνατά! ;)
