Added winglets do not increase range

Posted by pseudoswede on 28 August 2012 - 08:57 PM

An A340-200 (with the 5C3/P engines) has a range of 9210mi without winglets. With winglets, it has a range of 9560mi. Theoretically, this should give me 250-325 miles of additional range.

Whenever I try to add a route in said-additional range, it says it is pax restricted. Only when I fall below 7980mi can I fly with pax restrictions (which is roughly translated to the original 9210mi range).

From what I understood about max range the given max range is supposed to be with full fuel and...no pax. By loading pax this max range is lowered. So in other words 7980 is only reached with winglets otherwise the max range would be about 7650 which should be the effective (with full pax) max range.I had the same doubt for a while about a330-300 but then I figured it out because 9560, in your case, is way too much with pax. I hope I don't wrong and made myself clear

In my second paragraph, I noted the maximum range for a fully-loaded, properly configured A342--around 7,980mi. With the winglets, it should be around 8,300mi.

Sorry that 7980 which is between the basic range (7829) and with winglets (8136) confused me but I looked more carefully making tests with a A330-300 and a boeing 747-400 and...you are right, winglets give no advantage! I don't know if the problem exists only for the planes with winglets already on or winglets don't work at any plane. In any case probably you found a bug.
