#282753 [CHALLENGE] World's Ugliest Colour

Posted by S K Y on 02 May 2020 - 07:00 AM in Logo / Livery Requests

Hello.

I'm here to announce that the deadline of this contest has been well passed and submission is closed.

However, since the number of participants does not meet expectations, I also need to announce that this contest is cancelled.

Thank you for those who participated, and a big apologise for not being able to continue this as planned.

I'd still encourage you to join other contests taking place at the moment, such as Edge's Private Airplane Challenge and Boing's Arabic Design Challenge.

#282703 [CHALLENGE] World's Ugliest Colour

Posted by S K Y on 30 April 2020 - 11:49 AM in Logo / Livery Requests

Hello everybody.

I hope to remind anybody who's interested in joining this contest that the deadline for your submission is in 24 hours.

However, looking at the number of entries, the lack of enthusiasm is quite visible. I expected to receive at least six or seven submissions, but until now there are only three. I feel this is due either the challenge is too difficult or my idea is simply not interesting enough. I'm leaning toward the latter.

Should there is additional entry until the deadline, I believe it would be wisest to cancel this competition. However in that case, I will still provide comments to the already submitted entries, without the score.

Thank you.

#282482 [CHALLENGE] World's Ugliest Colour

Posted by S K Y on 23 April 2020 - 07:24 AM in Logo / Livery Requests

Hello there.

I've just returned to AE, and I'm very happy to see the logo and livery department is as lively as ever.

I especially notice that challenges have been a new trend lately, and I really think it's a good idea to keep all of us occupied whilst being isolated at home due to the pandemic.

The challenges so far are put into categories like aircraft types (cargo, less than 50 pax), or situations (1950's, East Asia, Balkans, the upcoming AEAD). So, I think, why not making a challenge based on the design elements.

Thus, I come with this:

WORLD'S UGLIEST COLOUR LOGO & LIVERY CHALLENGE

msg-21998-0-51274100-1587622840.png

Background:

The colour above is called 'Opaque Couche'It's been voted as the world's ugliest colour by smokers in Australia, and has been used as the colour for plain tobacco and cigarette packaging in Australia, France, the UK, Israel, Norway, New Zealand, Slovenia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey in hope to deter smokers from smoking due to the association of this colour to "dirty", "death", and "tar".

I personally also associate this colour with "vomit", "toxic waste", and "excrement".

The Challenge:

Implement this particular colour as a principal element in your logo and livery design.

Rules:

1. Contestant can be individual or collective (group)

2. Each contestant can only submit one design set, that includes one logo and one livery.

3. The colour mentioned above must make at least 30% of the overall design.

4. No limitations of time period, country, etc. It's completely free.

5. Because contestant slot is not limited, and to help me noticing should there is a new post in this thread, reservation is strictly prohibited. Making reservation will result in automatic elimination from this challenge.

Scoring:

- Idea & Originality: Is it new design? Is it just a copy of something? What is the inspiration? Wow factor?

- Quality of Execution: How clean is your design? I have a masking tutorial to help you here.

- Cohesiveness: Do the elements in your design work well together? The font? The aircraft?

Deadline:

Submission to this challenge will be closed on Friday, May 1st18.00 (GMT+7)You can then proceed to join Boing's AEAD 2020 challenge that is starting at that time.

Results:

Results will be announce a few days after the submission deadline, complete with scoring table and judge's comments. Winners will have all the bragging rights of his/her capability of making world's ugliest colour beautiful.

End note:

The colour Opaque Couche is often confused with Pantone 448 C, that is a darker, more brownish hue of the colour. To avoid this confusion, please use the colour attached in this thread only.

HEX: #5b4b15

RGB: 91, 75, 21

CMYK: 0%, 18%, 77%, 64%

HSV: 46°, 77%, 36%

HSL: 46°, 63%, 22%

HAPPY DESIGNING!

Hien Japanese Airlines (飛燕日本航空/Hien Nihonkōkū), or just Hien, is a rather new air carrier service in Japan.

Started as Kansai based Hien Air Charter in 2011, It slowly changed into a full-scheduled carrier with routes mainly to southern parts of the country.

In 2019, the airline joined Azuma group and strengthen the groups existence in destinations south of Kansai.

Also in 2019, Hien revitalised their fleet with the new Airbus A220-100 to replace a couple of Boeing 737-300s they had been using since the beginning of their establishment. Currently, Hien's fleet is three planes strong. The fourth airframe was planned to arrive at the end of 2020, but at the moment its delivery is postponed due to the Covid19 pandemy, and will possibly be cancelled.

Being a relatively new airline, Hien's airplanes sport no livery with the exception of one (JA357N) which carry a trial livery scheme unofficially called the 'Tsubame'. There's no clarity if the paint scheme will be adopted to the rest of the fleet, but to date, the remaining Hien's planes are still just plain white.

Fly Mubarak | Abu Dhabi | AUH

msg-21998-0-11217400-1574005316.png

ABOUT THE AIRLINE

Fly Mubarak is a relatively small airline offering affordable flights from its headquarter in Abu Dhabi International Airport, to destinations mainly in the middle east countries. Founded in 1997 by Saeed bin Rashid Al Akhdar, the airline experienced a considerably rapid growth in the last decade, pushed by the economic plan diversification launched by the government.

Operating two dozens of Airbus A320s, Fly Mubarak has expanded to cover more destinations, including to parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe. With more and more people outside the oil and gas business flying from and to Abu Dhabi, the airline is looking at the future with a bright miswaked smile.

"Abu Dhabi is not as shiny as Dubai, but there's something about this place that makes people want to come and come again.

It's the Arabic Hotel California."

-Saeed bin Rashid Al Akhdar-
