2012 - Present Boeing 787-8

Cóndor kicked off the new millennium with interest in Boeing 7e7 program. Over time, this interest became an order for Boeing’s next generation 787. Executives believed that the new aircraft would prove to be a flexible addition to the fleet – allowing for a renewal of the carrier’s long and medium range routes. The first order, for 5 of the small 787-8s, was meant to begin the process of replacing the carrier’s venerable 757-200s with an aircraft that could please passengers and the board through enhanced costumer experience and superior fuel efficiency respectively. On the longer range, the airline’s relatively new sextet of A340-500s could be replaced by the larger 787-9 or -10 to achieve greater fuel economy and cut down on unsold seats on the transatlantic routes and single transpacific route.

Before they were even delivered, Cóndor ordered 8 more of the type to completely replace the 757s. The first 5 of the 787s were delivered wearing a new for 2012 livery that featured a relatively organic fuselage shape and tweaked, streamlined version of the carrier’s logo. The original 787-8s were named after the highest mountains in Ecuador. The following 8 were named after various natural wonders in Ecuador including some major rivers and waterfalls. By 2016, the 787s had replaced all 757s as Cóndor’s go to medium range aircraft.
