1990 - 2005 B744

1990 - 2005 B744

Himmelbahn's orders for Boeing's new flagship 747-400 came as no surprise given their positive operating experiences with the -100 and -300. The 747-400 offered better range and capacity than any other commercial passenger aircraft and Himmelbahn planned to use the type on flagship routes like MUC - JFK and longer haul routes that would allow the carrier to stretch the scope of its global operations. By the time the 747-400 project was nearing delivery though, Himmelbahn was in the midst of it's late 1989 privatisation. Deliveries of the type were delayed because the transition administration did not want to commit to using the new flagships in a certain market segment or on certain routes on the eve of the public offering of the company after which there was a high likelihood that the aircraft would be assigned to other roles. A single 747-400 was delivered in December of 1989 to be present for the official ceremony commemorating the privitisation of the company. This -400 was unique in that it was delivered in the existing Diskovogel scheme whereas all of the carrier's other -400s were delivered in the Grauvogel scheme following its introduction by the newly privatized company in 1990. The 747-400 became the flagship of the fleet and would remain so for over two decades. The type, despite being temporarily retired during the pandemic, continues to operate and presumably will continue to until the delivery of the 777-9.

Queen of the skies looking great!

It's such a drab colour scheme, and I absolutely love it! Looks great on the 744!

I like how you incorporated the logo on the fuselage.

I’m considering writing in the lore that the 744 in this livery was referred to by spotters as the Maus because it looks like a tank

Thank you! On single deck planes the logo sits below the text but I thought it was fun to push it forwards towards the nose for the 747
