Australis, then going by its original name of Terra Australis Air Transport (TAAT), had signed a contract to purchase seven of the Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellations in 1951. The Super Constellation would go on to fly on the famed Sydney to London route connecting the European and Australian continents and even flew on the world tour and Pacific services truly connecting Australia to the world
