Time skipping

I have noticed that the game I am in will randomly skip multiple days. I'm currently playing in R7 (20 mins a day), and despite only being away from my laptop for 11 minutes, I noticed that the game time had skipped from the 24th of August to the 1st of September - I wanted to know if this is a mechanic that is deliberately put in the game or is this a bug that needs to be fixed?
