Lockheed L-1011-500

Posted by domp on 04 December 2011 - 10:12 AM

Hi everyone,
in R3, the Lockheed L-1011-500 seems to have 400 seats. However, in the real world this aircraft has a maximum capacity of 330 passengers: "Max seating for 330 in a single class 10 abreast layout at 76cm (30in) pitch." Source:http://www.airliners...ats.main?id=272
This issue is probably the same with the L-1011-200 and L-1011-1, but i didn't look into those yet.

Thanks and have a nice day :)

Thanks for letting me know.

I have looked into the issue, but I can confirm that the 400 seats is correct, as per type certificates from the US' FAA and the UK's CAA. I assume that your source is using the maximum based on a slightly larger seating pitch than is minimum.
In AE we use the maximum certified passengers. This allows for the "legroom rating" to be a good representation. You can cram 400 in legally, but 300 would be more comfortable and popular.

Thanks for your input, and do continue to report any potential errors.

Oh, okay. Sorry for taking your time then.

I would agree with domp, All my information from books to airliners.net show the max capacity of the L1011.500 to be 330. Bear in mind that the L1011.500 was 4.11 metres shorter than the standard bodied L1011 whch could take 400 at a squeeze. It was the shorter body and the improved aerodymanics that gave it the much greater range. I notice wikipeadia quotes 315, and mentions that the aircraft had two less emergency exits, a major determinate on capacity.

Cheers

Chris

As I stated above, the type certificates show a maximum capacity of 400. Naturally, this is a legal maximum and not necessarily a physical maximum. But what is to say it is not possible to cram 400 in, simply because no airline did it?

The reason we use max capacity is because we need to "zero" the legroom rating. Putting a lower capacity, could lead to a comfortable real world configuration appearing as uncomfortable in game.

If you can find a better source than an official certification, then please do provide it (and that is by no means a dismissal, I am always open to new information) and I will verify it and incorporate it into the game.

The following information came from the UK CAA Website.

Hope this helps, my bits in brackets. There is info re the standard body as well which could squeeze in 400. Can not speak for the FAA.

Cheers Chris

Can you provide the link and page number for that?
(I got my 400 figure from the UK CAA website, so there must be some confusion)

Go into the CAA website and type FA9 in the search, and the first entry is a PDF for the Type data sheet FA9 which relates to the Tristar.

I also had tried the same sort of search for within the FAA website and failed.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Chris

Bear with me and I'll see what I can get.

So whats gunna happens if this changes? Cause its gunna mess my airline up a ton :P

If I update it, new cabin configs won't be able to be over 350. Old ones ought not to change, but legroom ratings may go a bit screwy if you have more than the new seating cap.

UPDATE: I've been busy of late, and I had a brief spell away. I'm also a bit snowed under for the time being, but I will get onto this ASAP.
