BSL Airport Nationality R6

Posted by MH165 on 21 December 2012 - 06:21 AM

Basel airport suddenly switched nationalities from Swiss to French. Technically, the airport is under both French and Swiss governance, but I am a Swiss airline that can now no longer add any longhaul flights from my hub...

BSL is the Swiss part of the airport, so should not be French
http://www.europe-ai...rt.php?code=BSL

We probably also need an airport MLH to represent the French airport
http://www.europe-ai...rt.php?code=MLH

The airport is located in France so is a French airport. I know that they share the airport but it is the geographic location of the airport that matters.

To copypaste from http://www.airline-e...ce/#entry133751

Methinks that Basel needs to be put in a separate country, and then fully open rights from each need to be given to both French and Swiss airlines.

Swiss airlines can operate LH flights, I believe, from BSL. Hence it should be available to them. By placing Basel in "BaselMulhouseLand", much fairer.

Also, as not allowed to edit, I'd say that ar's point about changing the code to EAP would be wise.

That is totaly ignoring facts that BLS is Swiss IATA code, 90 % of traffic at airport are Swiss routes, at airports is HQ of the greatest Swiss airline Swiss International airlines and physical borders are at the airport. .

Hal it is not being moved back into Switzerland, it is located on French soil so is staying in France.

From the France Swiss treaty is clear that Swiss airlines have same rights at this airport as will be Swiss airport.

Art. 16 Kommerzielle Rechte

1. Die schweizerischen zivilen Luftfahrzeuge haben im Flughafen dieselben kommerziellen Rechte wie in einem schweizerischen Flughafen

It shouldn't be in Switzerland, but it shouldn't be in France either.
Both countries are as equally correct as each other, as the purpose of countries in AE is to determine political restrictions, as opposed to being an indicator of where the airport is.
We need another country to put Basel in, or else it's simply not fair to either French or Swiss airlines.

Basel Airport should be given the EAP airport code. on top of that give it the french, swiss and german flags. and sheepy, i was always wise.

The airport is operated jointly by three countries (France, Switzerland and Germany) but it can't be located in 3 countries at the same time. In other words; we need to pick one country to locate the airport in. Because the airport is entirely located on French soil and is thus geographically speaking part of France, hence why it is classified as French in game.

At this point in time it isn't an option to give Swiss airlines ''access'' to BSL (although they can still operate routes to EU countries after 2000). Real life treaties like this currently can't be (or just aren't) implemented on AE.
