777-200. Between the seat capacity and fuel consumption, its clear the 777 is better. Depending on the engine configuration, the 777-200 also beats the MD-11 in runway length.

The 767s are good, but only if there isn't enough demand. Similarily to the 777, it has a better fuel consumption.

If you're an airbus fan sure an A330 can work too lol, just the price is going to be higher for that

I know this is old, and I am new to this, but I beg to differ.  The A343 carries more, goes further, and burns less fuel than many of these planes (at least in this game).  Importantly it costs far less.  Maybe I am missing something?

The MD-11 actually does make sense in one scenario I've figured--if its capacity and range closely match your requirements.  If so, you need to "lease to own" at least 21 units for a decade, and buy out the lease in yr 9-10.  The high depreciation of the plane favors the lease.  With the same money on the table, you will have 3 extra units over an A343 "buy" order (leasing is not advantageous in the same way for the A340, it is too valuable) and the extra revenue will make up for the gas guzzling over the life of the plane.  You can adjust these numbers, but the 21-25ish plane range is the sweet spot (and you need to by at least 21 MD-11s to make it work).  If you need more equipment than that, then the bulk discounts erode this advantage and I'd recommend the A343.

If you compare it to a more expensive plane, like the similarly sized A332, the MD-11 will blow them out of the water on economics (not per flight, but lifetime TCO + earnings per pax since you will simply have more MD-11s in service for the same amount of money).  Who cares about resale if you are going to dump them all in 15 yrs anyway?  Now, if you can fill an A343, you should probably buy that.  If you are flying smaller routes than a 747/340/777 requires, or prefer the higher frequency, then you can do very well with the MD-11.  Especially when you can pick up cheap ones on the used market every now and then to add to your profitable fleet.

The MD-11ER is a different story...but they both do look cool...

Bear in mind the A340-300 does have a longer turnaround time than the A330-300, so if you're using them on short-haul then the latter can be utilised more efficiently. Also check the minimum runway length requirements.

Personally I use the A330-300 for high-capacity short-haul working most of the time, and keep my A340-300s for mid- and long-haul.
