I know a terminal protects your gates. Does a hub protect them as well?

In addition, am I correct in saying that you must have a hub to create a terminal?

Lastly, lets say that I have 2 gates at a particular airport and I want to create a hub. Do I have to wait to accumulate 3 more gates to purchase the hub?

Thanks.

I dont think a hub protects your gates if you dont own them.

You dont need a hub to create a terminal.

You need at least 5 gates to create a hub.

If you have a hub, you can get gates confiscated, if you have a terminal, you can't

When to Open Hubs

Hubs increase the demand at airports for your airline. Each city has a constant value that represents its passenger base. Demand on routes is calculated by the passenger base of the two routes served. Opening a hub increases the number of passengers that are available based on the number of people you fly to that city.

Hub costs are based on gates leased from the airport. You will pay $500,000 per gate to open a hub, and significant amount thereafter to keep it open. Therefore, you will get the best value at cities you serve with large aircraft. Small aircraft will provide fewer passengers per gate, so you should not open a hub in a city you serve with many smaller aircraft. You do not have to open a hub at the airport you start at.
