I think that would be interesting . I wonder how they would set that up though.

I meant that the launch customer idea could induce cheating, i.e. waking up at midnight to order a plane to get launch customer status. This also gives a huge advantage to larger airlines....It also isn't very fair that one player gets an xx% discount just for being logged on just before the year/month change.
oh, sorry be more clear, yeah your right

well really if it was done right, there would be orders a couple of years before the plane even goes into production...
True...but lord knows there would be some bugs with that

A launch customer would have to commit to a certain amount of orders then!
Say I want to be launch customer for q400 and get a discount on my planes then I would have to guarantee that I would take a certain amount before I order another aircraft type ;-)
This way people would be wary of doing that because they then will be stuck with a particular type before they can order anything else.
Plus you could have several launch customers, say 5 for a particular airfame type. With the amount of different engine types and airframes the possibilities are endless!
you need to think a bit further than the length of your nose ;-)
As for your comment on waking up early, this game is played globally so maybe you are just waking up but maybe i'm just going to bed :eureka:

Now practically, I don't think it would improve gameplay. In the real world the launch customer discount is important for attracting airlines to unknown products. Since we know when an airplane will be available (think A380), how it will perform (think MD-11), and from this data guess what the used market will be like (think Mercure) we don't really need the discount to attract airlines to new airframes.

For me it was just kind of bragging rights.

What would be the benefit to being a launch customer anyway? Special Pricing for the lauch order or special pricing throughout the round for that type?
For me it was just kind of bragging rights.
Hey your back! and yes i do not see a benefit either, It would be more things that could just go wrong

I don't see any reason to limit the number of launch customers. What if anyone who orders in the first year/month/whatever it is on offer got the discount?

Just thinking of adding more stuff to this game, it's dead as it is. Open a route , plonk the biggest airframe on there that can handle the traffic and that's it , WOW , that's what I call airline management.
This is about the only feature "other" online sims don't have at the moment , apart from that they are leagues ahead in features to keep you busy "managing" your airline. As AE is at the moment you need absolutely no skills whatsoever.

This and $25 route pricing is what's killing AE.
