Surprise drop! Here a little early. Welcome (back) to AEAD 2025.
After a 3 year hiatus I am very happy to bring AEAD back. From its start in 2018, I have seen some incredible designs come through AEAD. This competition means a lot to me, and I am very happy to have finally found the time to bring it back after three years of life getting in the way.
As you can see, there is a twist this year. Over the past 4 AEADs I have challenged you to create your best modern Arabic design. This year I want to take it a step further and invite you to consider revival and evolution, much like this competition has. You may submit any form of carrier (full service, LCC, charter, or cargo) in two entries, so long as neither entry is the same type.
Try to weave history, identity, and character into airlines that have defied the test of time, risen from the ashes, or were perhaps reborn completely. This is my challenge to you for the Arabic Design Contest 2025. As always, I encourage you to review past editions for inspiration and feedback.
Please submit your submissions by September 15th, 2025
I hope you enjoy!

Arabiya - Saudi Airlines is a full-service Saudi Arabian carrier that serves as the flag-carrier airline of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), as well as the handler of air transport for members of the Saudi Royal Family, in conjunction with the Royal Saudi Air Force. Founded in 1945 after a single Douglas DC-3 aircraft was gifted to the reigning Saudi monarch, Arabiya has since grown exponentially. It operates an extensive route network that spans five continents, and has over 95 destinations worldwide. It operates a large fleet of 165 aircraft of mixed Airbus and Boeing origin. Arabiya-branded Saudi royal aircraft include the Boeing 747-8, Boeing 777-200LR, and Boeing 757-200.

Tunisiana - تونيزيانا
IATA: TS | ICAO: TSQ | Callsign: TUNISIANA | Hub: Tunis-Carthage International Airport - DTTA
Overview
Tunisiana Airways (الخطوط الجوية تونيزيانا) is a Tunisian mainline carrier based out of Tunis-Carthage International Airport. Tunisiana is Tunisia's flag carrier and is majority owned by it's state government. Ever since it's founding back in 1935 as the SNAT (Société Nationale d'Aviation Tunisienne) operating under the French protectorate, Tunisiana has grown to a fleet of over 29 aircraft and over 60 destinations served as of 2025, serving mainly European and African destinations, as well as two long-haul routes to Montreal and Beijing.
History
Initially launched as SNAT, it began mainly as a connection from Tunisia to France, but quickly expanded to more international destinations by 1956 beginning with Rome and Jeddah, using a fleet of DC-2's and DC-4's. By 1969, Tunisiana purchased it's first jet, a Boeing 727-100, eventually leading up to the 727-200 in 1973. With Tunisia's economy starting to run smoothly by the late 80's, 2 Boeing 767-200's were purchased under a leasing agreement, beginning services to Montreal and New York. By 1989, Tunisiana ordered 12 A320's, of which only 8 could be paid for and delivered. In 2006, 3 A330-300's were purchased in hopes of replacing the aging widebodies, and expansion to China began with it's first Beijing route. More recently, Tunisiana announced it's intention to lease 4 A321XLR's, as well as 3 A320neo's, complementing it's large A320 and A320neo fleet.

Transport Aérien Algérien, operating as Transalgérie (IATA: TZ, ICAO: TLZ, Callsign: FENNEC) is an Algerian full-service carrier, operating as the African nation's flag carrier, with its primary hub at Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport (ALG). The airline operates an all-Airbus (+ATR) fleet of 72 aircraft, operating to 90 destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
The airline was founded in 1946 as CATAM (Compagnie Algérienne de Transport Aérien Méditerranéen), with a single ex-wartime Curtiss C-46. The primary purpose of the airline was to connect Algeria to France (which still occupied Algeria at the time), along with providing scheduled service across Africa and into Europe. The airline would grow steadily through the 1950s, adding Convair 340s and Vickers Viscount turboprops.
The addition of the airline's first jet fleet, a pair of Sud Aviation Caravelle IIIs leased from the French flag carrier, prompted a name change, with the airline changing its name to TARAL (Transport Aérien Régional d'Algérie). This name would be kept by the airline throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s, and would be used upon the introduction of the airline's fleet of Douglas DC-9s, DC-8s, Fokker F27s, and the airline's first widebodies, a quartet of Airbus A300B4s. The A300s would be delivered with a new livery and new logo for 1978, featuring the now-classic Fennec Fox logo.
The fennec would remain the logo for the airline until today, even as the name would be changed again to Transalgérie, done to commemorate the launch of routes to North America, with flights to Montreal and New York being launched with a trio of Airbus A340-200 airliners. The current version of the logo would be introduced in 2014, coinciding with the airline's fleet renewal program, including a landmark order of A320neo family aircraft to replace the A320ceo and aging MD-80 fleet. This current livery would also feature on the airline's newest widebodies, the Airbus A330-900neo, which began deliveries to the airline in 2023.
Iraqiya Airlines الخطوط الجوية العراقية
IATA: IR | ICAO: IRA | Callsign: IRAQIYA
Iraqiya Airlines is the flag carrier of Iraq. It is headquartered in Baghdad, Iraq. Its primary hub is Baghdad International Airport (IATA: BGW, ICAO: ORBI). It also has operating bases in Al Najaf International Airport, Erbil International Airport, and Basra International Airport. Iraqiya is fully owned and operated by the Iraqi Government. It serves as a full-service airline and the primary airline in Iraq providing extensive domestic connectivity within Iraq and international connectivity with destinations throughout the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. Iraqiya was founded in 1946 by the Iraqi Government's Department of Transportation.
The logo, livery, and patterns on both the 1970-1994 and the 2016-current livery are inspired by Kufic, Babylonian, and Mesopotamian iconography that is commonly found in the cultures of the region. The logo is inspired by the Hand of Fatima, a symbol originating in Ancient Mesopotamia and prevalent throughout the Arab world that symbolizes power, strength, prosperity, good health, and protection against evil spirits. Those who bear the Hand of Fatima are blessed. The logo is also stylized in a way that spells "العراق", the Arabic name for Iraq. The color gold was chosen for the logo due to it being the traditional color of the Hand of Fatima and its significance in all aspects of Iraqi culture. The use of red, orange, and yellow as the colors for the livery evokes the colors of the Iraqi deserts and mountains at sunset. The values communicated through the Hand of Fatima are important to Iraqiya Airlines' mission to provide safe, reliable, efficient, and comfortable domestic and international transportation as Iraq's primary airline.
