Well, tragic news tonight from Australia...

Our most loved animal lover the world knows about, died due to a stingray, which lashed its tail at Steve, pearcing straight into his heart and killing him instantly.

Im sure most people would have seen his movie or on tv's shows across the world, working with animals and doing something he was passionate about.

A loss of a great man and funny larrikin...

Wow isn't that a kick in the seat....

While I didn't particulary find him funny. He did a ton for educating people about animals.

Kinda a 'Marlon Perkins' for my kids generation.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. You'd think he would die in a less ironic way, like being ripped to shreds by a crocodile.

I used to watch him all the time. I couldn't believe he died when I heard about it.

But no really, its a sad loss to the world as such a crazy manic managed to teach us about all the different animals of the world. I always thought he was mental but he was that good sort of mental.

Though for a "Crocodile Hunter", its ironic for him to be killed by a stingray.

Indeed, a man who worked with some of the most dangerous animals was killed by a normally dosile animal.

Yes, It is huge news.. he was a genuine guy too, his doco's weren't an act, with "CRIKEY" and that.. my dads mate lived next to him before his world fame too..

Sad to hear, especially with his poor family.. Also a debate if the Video, of steve's last moments (they where shooting a doc.) should be seen.. now, they better not let that out.. where curious and all.. but think if the kid(s) see it on TV or the Internet.. terrible..

Also known for giving all his money (most of it, he needs to earn a living too!) into the Wildlife and Environment.. also teaching many people about animals and wildlife.. you don't see him with all his money in a Red Ferrari. Real good Bloke.. will be missed dearly.. still a shock, i can't believe it still.

:) Rest In Peace Steve. You won't be forgotten, in Australia at least.. Bloody legend

God bless him. What a good guy he was too. My heart skipped a beat when I saw he died, he seemed almost invincible, but I guess not. God be with him and his family!
Rest in peace Steve!

The Irwin family has refused the offer of a state funeral, saying steve will receive a private funeral, with a state memorial service afterwards.

Nice to see that his wishes have been respect and the funeral will be a family matter only.

This is the last photo ever taken of Steve alive, on his boat the day before he was killed.
