Hana Airlines [Japanese: ハナ航空] is a Japanese airline with its head office in Ota City, Tokyo Prefecture. Originally founded as the Kanto Air Service in 1935, it is Japan's oldest airline. After World War II, and during Japan’s economic miracle in the 1960s, Hana rapidly grew, serving its first trans-Pacific flight from Tokyo to Washington DC via Anchorage on 1962-02-16, using a leased DC-8. Hana saw a major fleet transformation in the late 1990s. Looking to expand into the low-cost market and compete with the likes of Scoot, AirAsia, Peach and Cebu Pacific, Hana opened its low cost subsidiary, Jinsoku, in 2015. Hana serves many routes from its main hub at Tokyo Haneda Airport. The aircraft shown, JA076A, was Hana's first aircraft in the new livery , delivered on 27 September 2015. Hana uses its newer widebody aircraft to serve various international destinations on every corner of the world.
 
Hana mainly competes with Nihon Air System and All Japan Airlines on long haul routes, however it also competes with other East Asian legacy airlines such as Daehan Air or Hanjin Airlines to attract customers to connect via Japan and it’s flagship Tokyo Haneda hub rather than connecting via cities such as Seoul or Beijing. Hana’s regional subsidiary, Nippon Regional, mainly focuses on routes with less demand (etc Sendai to Fukuoka) and as such does not compete with many other airlines.

Jinsoku: Jinsoku was formed in 2015 to combat ultra-low cost carriers in the Asia-Pacific region such as Scoot, AirAsia, Peach and Cebu Pacific. What differs Jinsoku from these airlines is that, while keeping its low cost prices, can offer a much more pleasant product than its competition, with much wider seats and an average 40% more legroom than other LCCs in the region. Bases include Tokyo Narita and Osaka-Itami. Jinsoku’s competition includes Koreana and Dojo Air
 
Nippon Regional: Nippon Regional was broken off from Hana in 1989 to allow it to focus on providing the best service for customers wishing to travel within Japan. Bases include Naha, Fukuoka, Sendai, Sapporo, and Kobe. Nippon Regional mainly operates Q400s and smaller E-jets, however it does have some 737 aircraft transferred from Hana.

Daehan Air Co., Ltd. (Korean: 대한항공), formerly known as Daehan Airlines, is the flag carrier of South Korea and the country's largest airline by fleet size and number of destinations served. Though the present-day company was first established in 1962 as a state-owned entity, its origins date back to 1946 when it operated as a private company flying domestic and regional Asian services under the name Korea Civil Aviation (KCA). After its acquisition by the Hyundai Group in 1969, the company underwent a period of rapid expansion that propelled it to becoming one of most dominant airlines in the region, an attribute fuelled in part by South Korea's massive economic expansion between the 1970s and 1990s. Koreana is a low cost carrier based at Seoul Incheon Airport and its secondary hub at Seoul Gimpo. The airline started operations in 2001 when the country's government decided to create a new low cost carrier of South Korea after Daehan Air, Hanjin Airlines and Hangang Airlines. The airline operates to 84 destinations from its Seoul Incheon hub and 25 destinations from its Seoul Gimpo hub.

Founded in 1991, Baylink Airlines (branded as BAYLINK) operates a fleet of Sikorsky and Airbus helicopters on hops around the Pearl River Delta, catering to the rich and famous that wish to travel to the gambling hub of Macau as well as providing fast and quick transport between the financial and tech hubs of South China. 

 

In 2020, Baylink announced an order for up to twelve eVTOL aircraft from UK-based startup Vertical.

The logo of this brand, inspired by the rotors of a helicopter in flight, is the basis of much of the branding. I was inspired by the real-world helicopter airlines in my home city Hong Kong Sky Shuttle and Heliservices, which provide fast yet extremely costly travel in the Greater Bay Area.

Hanjin Airlines is the largest airline in the Republic of Korea (total fleet inc. subsidiaries, cargo and passengers served), and also serves as its flag carrier airline. It was founded in 1955 as Hanil Air Transport by an ex-Republic of Korea Air Force officer with a fleet of two Curtiss C-46s who primarily used them for private charters. Wanting to open up the economy after the catastrophic Korean War, the Korean government found it in its best interest to establish an international airline. After buying Hanil Air Transport, the Korean state built up the airline into the airline we know of today, a regional leader in fleet modernization, punctuality and cleanliness, consistently ranked as one of the best airlines in the world. Hanjin Airlines is also a founding member of the XXXXXXX Alliance, and it has been a member of it since.

 

Hanjin Airlines (including Hanjin Airlines Cargo and Seasonal Charters) bridges South Korea to the world, and vice versa, connecting the nation's capital, Seoul, to over 160 destinations in 50 countries on six continents. Apart from their main hub at Seoul-Incheon International Airport, the airline also Busan-Gimhae and Jeju International Airport as focus cities. The airline operates a large fleet of mixed Airbus and Boeing aircraft for passenger and cargo operations.

Nihon Air System (stylized as Nihon) is the premier international carrier of the Japanese Isles. It operates a majority widebody fleet and is particularly strong in the Transpacific sector. It was founded by government decree in 1955. It was entirely state owned for the first 3 years of existence and operated a small turboprop network on a largely domestic and regional network. That changed with the sale of a minority stake in the carrier to a large American airline which lead to rapid fleet growth and the introduction of transpacific flights through Guam and later Honolulu. The parternership has lasted until the present day and the co-operation between Nihon and its American co-owner informs its largely transpacific route structure.

All Japan Airways is one of the major airlines of Japan. All Japan Airways was founded as a privately owned company in 1969, to compete with Hana Airlines and Nihon Air System in the growing market. Starting out with a small fleet of Boeing 737-200s, All Japan Airways grew rapidly with Japan's economic miracle. Nowadays, All Japan Airways is a part of the three major Japanese Airlines along with Hana Airlines and Nihon Air System. Founded in 1989, Hangang Airlines(Korean: 한강항공) is a full-service air carrier headquartered in Incheon, South Korea with its only hub in Seoul-Incheon International Airport(ICN). The airline prides itself on its ability to provide passengers with high levels of customer satisfaction on modern, clean airframes, making the airline not only one of the best in the Asia-Pacific region, but in the world overall. Named after the Han River, Hangang Airlines hopes to spread Korean culture and traditions around the world, adding a unique Korean flair to international travel.

Japan National Airlines is a full-service Japanese airline with its headquarters and main hub at Tokyo Narita International Airport. The airline operates a fleet of 194 aircraft to 99 destinations across Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. JA445J is a 2007-build Boeing 777-300ER, built for and operated by JNA since its introduction, and painted into the current livery in 2013. This aircraft has served a long, reliable and uneventful life alongside its sister ships. The 777-300ER also worked alongside the 787 and A350 fleets to replace the 747-400 fleet, the last one of which left the JNA fleet in late 2019.
 
Rather unsurprisingly, my main inspirations for this were Japan Airlines and ANA, but I also tried quite hard to separate it from those airlines. My initial plan was to avoid using red and/or black altogether, and I was going to use a blue/green colour scheme for the livery. However, I was soon told that I shouldn't do this, and instead went for a red and silver colour scheme. Another one of my main goals was to avoid traditional Japanese symbols for the logo, such as the Japanese crane or the cherry blossom, and I believe I successfully achieved this.
