Sky Bridge is a small cargo carrier based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It started in the '80s with old piston-driven cargo planes, then transitioned to an all-Beechcraft 1900 fleet in the late '90s-early 2000s (all aircraft were converted from passenger variants to 1900CFs and DFs). The airline mostly operates as a contractor for larger freight specialist carriers - transferring mail, packages, and other loose freight from 757s, A300s, and various other cargo aircraft arriving into San Juan onto its Beechcraft 1900s, then flying it to cities like Ponce in Puerto Rico as well as to island destinations, mostly in the Virgin Islands. However, it also flies ad-hoc freight charters, and provides other such service - famously flying an injured endangered sea turtle to Tampa for rehabilitation. In 2019, Sky Bridge acquired a 737-800 that had previously flown for Pacific Airways, and converted it into a 737-800BCF. With the aircraft still mostly in the Pacific Airways livery, it was used in the summer of 2019 to fly aid and humanitarian supplies to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Dorian, and again in the winter of 2019-2020 after the series of earthquakes suffered by the island during that time. Outside of that time, the cargo carrier's sole 737 mostly operates outside of the aforementioned 'island freight' contract network, instead operating cargo flights for other customers. It is often seen in Miami, Dallas, as well as various Mexican and Caribbean airports.

I'll throw my hat into this ring...

British Atlantic Cargo was founded in 1972 and headquartered in London, England, though the majority of its operations occur in the West Indies. With a principal cargo hub in Bermuda, with flights operating daily to North America and Europe, as well as to their secondary regional hub in the San Juan, Puerto Rico; which serves the Virgin Islands, Anguilla, and Curacao, among others. Operating a fleet consisting of four MD-11's, a pair of A300's, and a dozen ATR 72's.

The aircraft pictured here is an MD-11 in the airline's 2017, 45th anniversary retro-jet livery.

UPDATE: Revisions made to current livery

Taipei Express Co., Ltd. (Mandarin: 台北快運航空; pinyin: Táiběi kuàiyùn hángkōng; literally: ‘Taipei Express Airlines’) is a Taiwanese cargo airline. It operates air freighter services to 27 destinations in Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania from Taoyuan International Airport (its main base) and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (its secondary base).

IATA: 5U | ICAO: TXP | Callsign: TAIPEX

History:

Taipei Express had its earliest origins in August 2008, when billionaire brothers Daniel and Richard Tsai announced their intentions to establish Taiwan's first all-cargo airline to compete against the duopoly of China Airlines and EVA Air in the air freight market. The startup was initially planned for launch under the name Taiwan Cargo Airlines, but geopolitical concerns led to the adoption of the current name in September that year. After receiving its air operator's certificate (AOC) on 7 September 2009, scheduled cargo operations commenced with flights from Taipei to Hong Kong, Osaka, Seoul, and Tokyo. Its initial fleet consisted of four converted McDonnell Douglas MD-11 Combis acquired from Aviaperú.

Originally concentrating on operations in East Asia during its early years, Taipei Express has since rapidly expanded to cover several destinations in Europe, Southeast Asia, North America, and Oceania. A second base at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport was established in 2014.

Destinations served:

Amsterdam, Anchorage, Atlanta, Auckland, Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Chicago-O'Hare, Chongqing, Dallas/Fort Worth, Dubai-Al Maktoum, Guangzhou, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Jakarta-Soekarno-Hatta, Kuala Lumpur-International, Los Angeles, Manila, Miami, Nagoya-Centrair, New York-JFK, Osaka-Kansai, Penang, San Francisco, Seoul-Incheon, Shanghai-Pudong, Shenzhen, Singapore, Taipei-Taoyuan, Tokyo-Narita

Fleet:

6x Boeing 777F

No idea if this'll be allowed, since it's a real organization (as militaries tend to be) , however everything else about it is fictional...  but here we are.

A Boeing 727-200F operated by the Venezuelan Air Force.

I figured nobody else would do a military cargo/transport aircraft, so why not have a bit of fun with it.  I was going to do a grungy Venezuelan cargo carrier, then figured it would probably just be operated by the military anyways.

Portuguese Cargo Lines | Lisboa, Portugal

PCL is a cargo airline that belongs 50% to the government and 50% to a private group. Founded in 1970 with 1x DC-10-30F it has grown very fast to reach the fleet of 15x DC-10-30F, 10x MD-11F and 5x 777F. The first DC-10-30 (CS-PCK) arrived on August 5, 1990 and 2 months later the airline began operating cargo flights. Currently the DC-10-30F are the most famous PCL aircraft due to the amount of time they have been operating in the Portuguese skies. The most common places to see them are in Lisbon, Luxembourg, London, Frankfurt, Munich and Porto since most of the flights are to those destinations.

Not much is known about this small Brazillian carrier. They operate 2 Embraer 120s at night throughout the state of Amazonas. The lack of information on the airline has lead to speculation that the are involved in possible criminal activity. For now, you may see their aircraft at small airports and unprepared airstrips throughout the region.

Greenre | Oakland, California, USA

While the number of personal electronics continually increases exponentially worldwide, the issue of electronic recycling requires more attention must be placed as people continue to put greater reliance on digital devices. There are too many people who do not know what to do with their electronic devices once their service life has been completed. Although some participate in e-recycling, the reality of the global electronic "recycling" process reveals a dismal chain of garbage shipping. Because so many products are simply too hard to separate, the single biggest hurdle against sufficient e-waste disposal lies in the fact that if the components inside these devices are mutilated in any way, they will release toxic gases;. Due to these challenges, the well-intentions of e-recycling are too often reduced by deficiencies that lead these products to end up in landfills or illegal dumps around the world and exposing social and environmental inequities around the world.

Greenre (pronounced "Greener") is a startup founded by a Bay Area high school student and funded by philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and investors worldwide. Launched in 2014, Greenre is headquartered in Oakland, California and is often associated with the effort dedicated towards combating the massive, underlying e-waste problem. The non-government organization built its own e-waste collection network and facilities, first within the United States to register its effectiveness in waste management solutions, and then expanded internationally to serve frequent connections between electronic companies collecting scrap and countries that lack a robust recycling network. In 2019, Greenre launched a public information campaign called, "Where's your phone gonna end up?" in order to encourage e-recycling and address the lack of awareness towards the malpractices of the current e-waste distribution techniques.

Greenre primarily utilizes rail and road infrastructure operating around North and Central America, and sea and air infrastructure internationally; its aerial collection service is operated by Falken Cargo.

I would like to thank everybody for competing, and I had a lot of fun seeing what everybody could come up with, and I'm quite pleased with many of the results! No two submissions were the same, and I enjoyed looking over each one in great detail. Don't think of a lower score as a mark of your capabilities, but as motivation for the next challenge to work differently to achieve a better result! Take what you have learned and earned here and apply it to your branding in the future. Congratulations to our top 5! I look forward to seeing more competition work in the future!  :)

Brands were judged on the basis of Originality, Cohesiveness, and Appeal, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 30 points being awarded total. I have outlined what I was looking for in each of those categories below. Brands that received the same points score were placed in order based upon what I thought the brand deserved, based on my normal judging characteristics for someone else's work.

Originality - When looking at your submission for originality, I'm looking to see if I can see aspect of real-life brands in them, distinguishing between inspirational aspects, and just taking something from a real life brand. Lower scores in originality either had many similarities to a real life airline, another submission, or both.

Cohesiveness - This measure is probably the most subjective. When looking at a submission for cohesiveness, I'm looking for things such as how well the colors work together, logo fits with the type of airline, and the effectiveness of the brand.

Appeal - Appeal is simply how much I like the design. If I think it looks great, then more points were awarded than if I don't.

Again, low scores in these categories are merely my feelings for each, and should not be taken as a mark on someone's' skills or capabilities. I am happy with every submission and encourage everybody who participated to continue doing so in future competitions!

*FishermanIvan's submission was omitted from the contest because it was not a private entity, although it's absolutely gorgeous work and I quite like it.

I am available for questions about the judging process, and feedback if you would like it.

Consider regions that are currently underrepresented in AE. Perhaps that could be a starting point for our next branding competition.
