Hello,

Everytime i play this game, no matter in which World, there are always at least 3+ Spam Airliners if you know what i mean, having every Airport in the USA or China or whatever and that stuff.

Is there nothing to do? Its some kind of ruining because they occupy so much routes and its always like its scripted or botted idk. But that doesnt seem legit/handmade.

Honestly? I have no idea how to do it. I've played this game for quite a few years, but yeah. Spam liners are a real problem, especially in the specialised worlds where they can have in excess of 30,000 aircraft (yes. I kid not!!!). So, I just go into the game worlds I know I have a chance at and wait for the worlds to reset, then I know I have a chance.

Yeah, the best solution is to stop playing the game.

Yea the spamliners are really frigging annoying. One just moved into my market specifically and is creating hubs out of ALL the airports in my area I serve, and spamming them with dozens and dozens of flights with large regional jets even though the demand is WAAAY below the amount of planes this spamliner is putting on these routes, and I can't compete at all or make any money on those routes, and I don't have the financial resources yet to "out-spam" this airline. I think this will probably be my last playthrough of AE and just resort to uploading my liveries on the AE gallery and keeping my airline in FSX only.

This is one reason why I never want to establish an airline in the US, let alone my own US airline brand to add to my portfolio.

In S1 I have about 3 major competitors that are starting to annoy me because they won't leave some of my key markets alone.

Does improving your product help at all? Like offering more than one class of service but not maximum default capacity? Or does marketing help?

While I do not want to give too much of the meta away, I would say tying up your cash on 30 planes that won't get delivered for another 3 years is not advisable. ;)

A hint is that, there are also tons of features which were never properly implemented because the developer graduated and went into a full-time job.

I know know it's not a good idea to do that but I wanted to just because well I wanted to lol

I wished there was a way to convert orders of the same type to a different specification in that type
Say turn A321-100 orders into A321-200 orders and pay the difference.

I was just curious if there was anything I can do in terms of certain features to better ward off competitors other than having more planes.

No way to go around it without outgrowing the opposition by getting more planes. I've bankrupted/forced a base change for 5 airlines and counting. Already regretting letting the base changers live for the sake of sportsmanship...

As to how to go around it, find every single way to lower your cost base, it works. Also, increase ancillary income.

And this is why rankings should be done not on valuation (because no one in the public cares what the most valuable airline is) but on running an airline that would be rated high in travel magazines: on-time, legroom, network size, non-stop offerings, frequency. Not putting 747s in 100% Y on every route. Valuation should be thought of as stock price and based on an algorithm of total profitability, profit margin, and reputation.

And service levels need to matter when the ticket prices are similar. Would I fly RyanAir for $10 less than BA? I think not. Perhaps the passenger algorithm should take into account both ticket price and expected on-board costs (since the game already estimates profit from ancillary income per customer).

Also, Western airlines using Russian and Chinese planes should get a big reputation hit. With the exception of one or two airlines using the SSJ-100, no airlines in the West or in industrialized first-world nations around the globe use Russian or Chinese jets.

Sadly, game development's been dead for years but a more sophisticated reputation algorithm would add a little more depth in the game and slow down airline growth. Although I doubt it would change the age old capacity dumping which has always been an integral part of the game, just with less dense aircraft at 15 hour utilisation...

Agree, Spam as well. That way all the airlines would turn into spamlines.

Just try to 'become' one of them by adding lower cost flights. If there are already low cost airlines operating there just make prices lower so that any new competitor wont be able to add routes without bankrupting themselves. Even other spam lines eventually face intense competition and they sometimes miss highly demanded routes. Being a spam liner only annoys other players and isn't always bad as long as you don't use exploits. I'm not that experienced but I already experienced my airline growing very fast financially by adding routes even with competitions. You will always have to look for highly demanded routes where competitions are inevitable. So face it or risk going bankrupt.

^True. It's like many realistic players keep bitching more about competitions rather than the spamlines itself.

In real life, majority of main routes like LAX-NRT, JFK-LHR or SIN-PEK would have tons of competitions either way.

Believe it or not, it is actually impossible to flood a route, no matter how many players are flying that route and no matter how many flights are set for that route - which ultimately means no player can force another player off of a route.

Also, what others charge for flying a route has absolutely no bearing on what you can charge for that route.  If everyone else reduces their prices to $1 you can arrange things so that those $1 ticket prices everyone else charges have absolutely no bearing, influence or impact on what your ticket price is for the same route.

Even more, all possible routes within the same country (even routes having zero annual passengers) can be made to do the same thing as outlined above.

That is, IF YOU KNOW what you are doing, and why, and when.

Just to bend your minds a little further, I'm going to go all "MATRIX-like" on you and tell you that "There IS no competition!"

So, I ask - do you take the Blue Pill and go back to your own pre-conceived way of playing this game, comfortable in your notion that this game should be played as realistically as possible;

OR

do you take the Red Pill and allow me to show you just how deep the rabbit-hole goes?
