For me personally, I'll start a scam IFS (Making food really expensive - passengers will still pay for it!). I'll also lease until I have around 40 aircraft and enough money- then I'll start purchasing my leased aircraft- I try to go to an airport with a lower lease price than the likes of Heathrow and Beijing Capital but still with good demand - Gatwick is a good example.
How do you all make your money on AE?
I use a 3 star scam IFS to make low demand regional routes profitable and base the airline in a smaller Middle Eastern city (As long as its not Dubai, too much competition) which will provide me with a central location for a hub and spoke stategy. Most African, European and Asian cities are within the range of DC-8s while 747SPs can reach Oceania and South America. I also try not to operate planes that are older than 10 years to keep the maintenance costs low and scrap unused airplanes rather than sell them to the used maket so they won't be used by other airlines.
AE Player
When I've had success and fun, it's been abusing short runways with long-range aircraft that should not in normal circumstances fly there. Santa Ana (SNA), Chicago Midway (MDW), and Toronto City Centre (YTZ) come to mind.
You can fly B777-200s, A350-800s, and even B747-400Ds out of the first two for decent range, and even though jets are banned at YTZ in real life, the A319NEO can make it to Europe from there.
The way I make my money in the beginning is making IFS with max prices. I've found that AE pax WILL pay for it LOL I don't charge for the pillows and stuff but that's personal preference I haven't seen if charging for the things that can be left behind increases profit.
