Right now world R0 is going into its 1990s and Airbus has been starting to take A330/340 orders. While I am going for the A340, most players are going for the A330. I don't understand why because it has a higher unit cost, shorter range and higher fuel flow (about 41k compared to about 39k of the A340). The only parameter that A330 seems better is turn time (75 min compared to 90 min of A340). Why everyone is choosing the A330?

I think fuel flow is per engine and the A340 has double the engines

If equiped with the Trent 768 engines, the A330 has less fuel flow than the A340, carrying 440 pax (same as the A340-300, 20 more than the A340-200) at 549 knots (more than any A340 config except for the fuel-guzzling engine options). Also, there's the turn time difference you mentioned, and it only requires 7302ft of ruwnay, while the A340 requires more than 8000ft. This means the A330 is more flexible and can be used in more airports.

I guess the maintenance costs are also bigger with the A340s, but i have no data to support that.

So, do these advantages compensate for the larger price / rent? Don't know, but they might.

I’m not too sure by that but by personal experience the A330 is great for domestic and the A340 is great for international. I personally opt for the A340 though, think why ppl opt for the A330 is probably due to its reputation in real life, like how decently good Russian aircraft (Il-96-400) gets little to no orders. I don’t think it’s because people care about the fuel flow, since I see lots of ppl ordering the BAC Comet where it is basically a loss due to its insane fuel flow. People are rather ignorant about fuel flow in this game.

I have also been thinking about the possibility but that does not sound very reasonable (since furl cost almost remained the same when I substituted my Tristars to A340 (in another game world). If fuel flow is per engine, the fuel cost should be slightly higher, but that didn't happen. Also, my B777s and A340s tend to have the same efficiency. However, I till think that this should be confirmed and if fuel flow is really per engine, A340s will be rubbish on efficiency compared to A330s.

I agree. The advantage of the A330 in the game may be its relatively short turn time (75 min vs. 90 min of A340). This may explain why It looks better in domestic routes in the game (because domestic routes tend to be shorter, so its short turn time will take effect very frequently).

I still think all those stuffs will not offset its 60% more price. And right now I am comparing between A333 and A343, which gives 40,500 and 39,936 fuel flow respectively (both on the engine with lowest fuelflow). But I really want to know why people are choosing A330. Maybe it is just because its real life reputation? Or fuel flow is calculated per engine?

I played this game for a long time and the A330-300 with 768 engines is one of the best aircraft for the money spent on it.

It is the perfect aircraft for trunk routes, especially around those 3000-6000 range and you can have a high density configuration which brings in the $$$ to your profit line. and the fuel flow for the 768 engines is the lowest for the A33-300 if i recall, thus making it ideal.

I would normally use the A340s (A340-500 and/or A340-600) for the extended range beyond that 6000m range where it performs, in my opinion (obviously that is better the 777/787/A350 families are launched in game).

That is very reasonable. In the world I mainly used A340-300 for long routes because I have Il-86 for short routes and Il-96 or A300-600R for medium haul routes.

Yea this is what I usually use too, since the A340 has the longest range in the game until the 777-200ER and LR comes out, but by personal experience the A340 outfares the 777-200ER in terms of fuel efficiency.

A330 is one of the best performing planes in this game and yes the fuel flow is per engine
