In my like... third start on R0, I'm operating nothing but Il-18s and Tu-114s. So far that's going much better, but everyone else is already way ahead of me.
Soviet Aircraft, experiences with them.

Competition on R0 is tuff, the Il-18, AN-10 and Tu-114 are the only great money makers, actually with a Scam IFS you can make a tiny bit of money with the An-2. I generally use the Scam IFS for the An-2

I bought a single An-2 used for cheap. I have it trundling around small routes in Tibet making very small amounts of money.
I'm playing on R0 mainly because I wanted a big fleet of glorious Tu-114s (because they're cool).

the Tu-114 is a cool plane, everytime i do get them i use them with special cabins with more business and first class seats then economy, but thats only once in a while when i do buy it

There's no way to make the Tu-144 profitable, is there?

I sincerely doubt there is, ill try with scam ifs when the time comes. Also the Tu-124 can make quite a lot of money on regional routes so i'd use it for that purpose

I had some success with Concordes on a previous sandbox playthrough, but they're a bit more efficient and have longer range than the Tu-144

I've seen airlines with Tu-114's on the order book all the way into the end of R1 and R2, how you guys do that is beyond me.
Ill also be updating this all as ive manage to find ways to make money on some aircraft as ive flown them recently
I've done it. Tu-114s on order until 2021 in R0 lol.

do you think that's realistic?

Obviously not. I can always cancel the orders. Still, it's not as if modern airliners go particularly fast. While my plan is to switch to Il-96s when they become available, so far the Tupolev jets just use too much fuel for me to adopt them on a large scale. Interestingly, it's quite a while before there's a Soviet jet that surpasses both the capacity and range of the Tu-114. But it's only 1964 right now.
Furthermore, it's also not very realistic for one airline to have like a million hubs >.>

I've come to the conclusion that the Tu-114 is massively more profitable to run than the Il-62.

IL-62 (Has a nice range but it really is a hungrier version of the VC-10, not even in regional routes does this thing make a dime)
i thought that il-62 is better than vc-10, bought 2 vc-10 for their range but it doesn't have good profit so i'll try il-62 next time

There's the Il-62, which is... okay, I guess, and the Il-62M, which has way longer range. I have a few ordered to try out, might perhaps replace some of my oldest Tu-114s with them (their range is almost identical). I'm skeptical that they'll be as profitable, given that they have slightly fewer passengers but use significantly more fuel.

It doesn't seem like there's any advantage to the Tu-154A over the regular Tu-154, at least going by the stats. Am I missing something?

Yea, i think i must've gotten lucky with the Tu-154A on the route i was operating

Like their stats are almost identical. No difference in range, speed, turn time, or passenger capacity. I guess I'll just wait for the Tu-154M.

Tried swapping in Il-62Ms on routes that my Tu-114s had been flying... but they're nowhere near as profitable. Typically they earn about 20-25% of what the Tu-114 does on the same route. Probably not going to get any more of them and let these leases expire.

i bought yak 42 and its really good, and profitable for short routes (<3h). not expensive and maintenance is cheaper than 737-200, for example. Fuel costs not bad at all
