Hi all--I am just completing my first round of this game.  The world was set to run from 1990-2010 at 5 min per day.  I started in 1994.  I quit doing any managing of my airline in about 2007-08.

I thought this game was interesting, but pretty repetitive.  I got irritated with some other airlines who would simply add 747s on routes with 150 person demand and swamp them for no reason--I was very strategic and careful about everything I did from aircraft purchases to hub selection and route planning.  I am guessing these are the "spamlines" referred to in the forums but haven't seen the term defined.

In general, I am wondering how anyone can continue to play this game.  When I first started I was totally fascinated and tried to figure everything out.  This combined with route planning and expanding my airline took massive amounts of personal time.  Now that I've generally figured a lot of this out, I can't imagine playing this same game again--it could easily suck up 8 hours a day.  After a while of playing I have zillions of dollars and the only thing to do with it is to buy more aircraft and fly to more and more places.  And when I would order the aircraft they would just keep coming...more and more showing up in my inbox needing me to send them off, fix the fares, deal with the idle time, and review more and more existing routes to make sure the random airlines weren't swamping my route and cutting the fares to nothing.

I guess my question is, how do the veterans around here keep up and/or devote so much time to this thing??  Am I doing it wrong?

Yeah about the time... I end up coming back on roughly 4 times a day to deal with new deliveries and fixing fares :P. Little bit of a time waster but plenty of satisfaction if you get it right!

I use mobile, pc and computer.

When I'm out of my home I use my phone. When I'm in the office I use my pc (I don't really use my laptop a lot though to play this game). At home I use my computer. I is indeed difficult to play this game, hence after a while once your airline is big you can just forget about the profits and keep adding flights.

I play this game a lot as I usually check on my airline every 30 minutes (unless I'm sleeping)

Yes this game is time-consuming, in fact, it is super time-consuming. I still do not know how people have multiple airlines and they are all No.1 in every single world.

While you may think you need be on AE 24/7 to put your new delivered aircraft on routes and take care of your airlines due to price changes from competitors, i believe everyone should find that middle ground between growing your airline and not having to be on AE at all hours.

I think a good solution to your problem is perhaps play in worlds that restrictions apply and not in open worlds, is that would allow you to:

1. Control the time you allocate in real life to manage your airline.

2. Grow your airline as organically as you can while making them juicy profits and compete with your competitors.

3. Enjoy the game

4. If you want, you have share your airline with a fellow AE member (that you personally trust) to help shoulder the burden of running the airline.

No need to have your life sucked out playing AE. I did it back when i first joined AE and trust me, it does get tired doing the same thing over and over again.

Time management is AE's most important skill, if you want to top the leaderboards. Ultimately it's less about the maximum theoretical profit that could potentially be made, and more about how much profit you can add to your airline in a certain amount of playing time.

Just for example, last game I made the mistake of ordering new planes on leases for far too long; it's definitely a bit more profitable to do it that way - lease until 'buy from lessor' cost drops to zero, it's cheaper than paying the depreciation over that time - but it's not enough extra profit to be worth all the extra time/hassle managing it all when instead you can use that time to add new planes to new routes.

Ultimately it takes about the same amount of time to set up a new route with 100 pax as with 100,000 pax. So the bigger you get, the less time it takes you to allocate a given number of new planes.

The only crucial time when you need to constantly checking your airline is the first year. After that, a couple of inspections per week are usually more than enough.

This is especially for the common worlds where one day lasts for 15-20 minutes.

Of course, this doesn't apply for those who race for the 1st rank by valuation because they order a gigantic amount of aircraft.

For the rest, once your airline becomes profitable, even by the smallest margin, it will be a walk in the park.

Also, use the defer order function wisely to match your real life schedule.

Yes I agree with you.
However I honestly think that getting 1st is wayy to ambitious, and I would rather just get too 10 or top 5 (that’s what’s happening in both my airlines now my airline is S3B is no 3 at distance flown and passengers carried, while my airline in O2 is no 6)
