Cannot find any discussion regarding this but I recalled that now Taiwanese airlines can fly directly to any Chinese airports since 2009 up to 270 flights per week. Currently, political restrictions on existing AE servers makes no Taiwanese airlines able to fly to China except Macau and Hong Kong. Any ideas?

As a Taiwanese American myself I do fully agree that the political restrictions in AE should be changed, and have also suggested doing so before. Our hub airlines, China Airlines and Eva Air, do run many flights to China, likewise to Chinese-hub airlines.
The two countries still don't recognize each other and have political disputes. Cancelation of Chinese New Year charters, M503, stealing of diplomatic airlines, forcing airlines in changing Taiwan to Taiwan, China, just to name a few.

AE isn't in active development. Hasn't been for years.
Come on, I guess we all know this.
