"Greetings!"

ENTRIES WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED

(AS OF JUL6 24:00 CET)

It's been a while since I've been active on AE, but even while away when I looked into the gallery I saw only a few Arabic airline concepts (even fewer good ones). I was wondering what brands are out there right now, and which could be developed with a little effort by the design community.

Therefore, I would like to announce an AE design contest for Arabic airline brands.

For those interested in entering, submit a brand portfolio for an original airline based somewhere in the Arab World* by the end of this month (June 2018).** Please carefully read the rules, guidelines, and point categories first.

After submissions are finalized points will be awarded in several key categories and I may provide feedback. Additionally, select members of the AE design community will be further consulted. The brands will be ranked and a winner announced as AE's Best Arabic Brand 2018!*** A runner-up will also be announced. With your permission, a selection of this year's submissions, including the winner and runner-up will then be featured on a special gallery created for the displaying your designs.

Meaning behind the livery:

Symbols:

The Eagle/Falcon on the tail represents our strength in flight, and our fearlessness in competition.

Colors:

The tan color which covers the majority of the fuselage represents the sandy desert of which we are based.

The Green color on the tail and the rear fuselage represents our safety, and ambition.

Omanwings (stylised as omanwings) is the flag carrier and largest airline of Oman. Based in Muscat, the airline started flying in 1997, after the nation's previous flag carrier ceased operations. The airline is growing in the Middle East and passengers are attracted to its attractive prices and convenient schedules. Omanwings operates a mixed fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, with the Embraer 175 being used for regional routes. The company will move to an all-Boeing fleet in 2021, when the last A330 is retired in favor of the 787.

The Omawings fleet as of June 2018 consists of:

  • 10 Airbus A330-200s (to be replaced by the 787-8)
  • 5 Airbus A330-300s (to be replaced by the 787-9)
  • 35 Boeing 737-800s (15 aircraft to be replaced by the 737 MAX 9)
  • 1 737 MAX 9 (29 more on order, to replace 15 737-800s)
  • 3 787-8s (12 more on order, to replace the A330-200)
  • 2 787-9s (8 more on order, to replace the A330-300)
  • 10 Embraer 175s (to be replaced by the CS100)

The airline also has 15 Bombardier CS100s on order, to be delivered between 2019 and 2021. These aircraft will be used for lower-demand routes and will replace the 10 Embraer 175s in the airline's fleet.

rustupid2, ALTAIRA, UAE, SHJ (Sharjah International Airport)

About ALTAIRA

Translating to "bird," ALTAIRA is a low-cost carrier based out of Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) in the United Arab Emirates. With close proximity to Dubai, we offer a more affordable alternative to the luxury carriers operating throughout the United Arab Emirates and the Persian Gulf area. ALTAIRA began operations in 2004, and has become particularly successful considering the competitive nature of the routes which it serves.

Fleet

ALTAIRA currently operates a fleet of 42 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. By using this aircraft alone, it allows ALTAIRA to keep maintenance costs low, to ensure low fares for all of our passengers. Nevertheless, ALTAIRA has recently placed an order for 5 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with the intention to increase this order in the near future, to modernise the current fleet.

Destinations

Whilst the majority of ALTAIRA's destinations can be found within the Persian Gulf, North Africa, and other parts of Asia, there has been a rising demand for low-cost flights to and from Europe. Therefore, as of 2018, ALTAIRA currently serves these European destinations:

Azerbaijan - GYD - Baku Heydar Aliyev

Belgium - BRU - Brussels

Bosnia & Herzegovina - SJJ - Sarajevo

Denmark - CPH - Copenhagen

France - CDG - Paris Charles de Gaulle

France - LYS - Lyon-Saint-Exupéry

Germany - FRA - Frankfurt

Germany - MUC - Munich

Germany - TXL - Berlin Tegel

Greece - ATH - Athens
Ireland - DUB - Dublin

Italy - FCO - Rome Fiumicino

Netherlands - AMS - Amsterdam Schiphol

Russia - DME - Moscow Domodedovo

Spain - MAD - Madrid Barajas

Spain - BCN - Barcelona-El Prat

Spain - PMI - Palme de Mallorca

Sweden - ARN - Stockholm Arlanda

United Kingdom - LGW - London Gatwick

United Kingdom - MAN - Manchester

Design

Since it began operations, ALTAIRA has continued to be a bright and modern airline. Although the United Arab Emirates and the emirate of Sharjah are full of exciting history and culture, ALTAIRA has recognised that there is a unique market beyond luxury carriers, and part of filling that market involves creating a brand which is recognisable and memorable. The current design, used since 2011, can be seen below. This design is featured on all of our current 737-800 aircraft and will continue to be painted onto our incoming 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
