Recent Downtime

The reason why the site went down is due to our host who forgot to renew our domain automatically. This meant them changing the DNS and thereby taking 24hrs to reset back to our server.
Completely not our fault and I do apologise. I've advanced the date so that it now still month changes at 18:00hrs.

Read this and it should explain...Thanks for the info, Mr. Wrench. But I do have one question. How was it that it happened at different times? For instance, for me, it happened on Sunday, yet for someone else in GoldenSKY, it happened later in the day, like, after noon.

One rule you learn in hosting, is not to keep your eggs all in one basket.. Use a domain provider (NameCheap, GoDaddy, etc), then use your host or dedicated server (Layered Tech, SWFL Net, etc.)
Keeps things like this from happening

Nice to see the experts out in force *rolls eyes*Torque.. I suggest you transfer the domain name to a reliable domain provider, such as NameCheap, or any other provider, so that you can automate it, and take care of it yourself.

Its convinient from a financial point of view to only deal with one company. Normally they are excellent, Everyone makes mistakes from time to time. No major harm done and since we switched hosts, our server has been rock solid.
I saw that show, 50 Things To Do Before You Die. I would have thought the obvious one was "Shout For Help"

I was just merely offering a suggestion.Nice to see the experts out in force *rolls eyes*

And the suggestion is widely supported in the web-hosting industry.
If you don't believe me, you're more than welcome to go to http://www.webhostingtalk.com and ask the webhosts themselves.
I bet you 85% of them will say it's better to have them with a registrar than with a host.
So, next time, either please say "thanks", or say "We'll keep it in mind" (even if you don't plan to do it)
No reason for acting like a butt when someone is offering you a suggestion.

I've never used hosts since I dug up some random fossil to host myself...it's pretty reliable, I gotta tell you...total downtime since 2003 was somewhere in the vicinity of 2 hours.
But I'm glad the problem was fixed so soon! Good work!

It came across very condescending, if you didnt mean it that way then maybe my comment was out of line, however i more than know what the options are when it comes to the webserver and it just works better the way we have it set up at the moment.I was just merely offering a suggestion.

Well, I guess I can accept that. You've not had the opportunity to get to know me, so my behavior can easily be interpreted differently. It came across very condescending, if you didnt mean it that way then maybe my comment was out of line, however i more than know what the options are when it comes to the webserver and it just works better the way we have it set up at the moment.
1. I don't talk down to people.
2. If it sounds like I am, I'm probably pulling your leg.
3. I've been in the hosting gig for 10 years, so when I offer a suggestion, it's 99.9% of the time an educated suggestion. You're welcome to not accept my suggestion, but please be respectful about it. I offer my suggestion with intentions to help save people a buck when possible, not to be snide and condescending.
4. If you have a feeling that I'm saying something to be disrespectful, ask me to clarify in PM. It easily avoids things like this.

you have been interested in hosting and such since 9 years old ? that is quite a dedication but i wouldnt think its possible to start to really understand hosting and such until 13 , 14 or 15 perhaps ?

Your profile seems to suggest otherwise...3. I've been in the hosting gig for 10 years, so when I offer a suggestion, it's 99.9% of the time an educated suggestion.
I could stand here all day and talk about my experience and qualifications. However I dont need to. All i need to say is that when it comes to this website, i know more than you....

Anyways, depending on what type of hosting you need. I may be able to provide (or my host) nearly unlimited ad supported webhosting. The wonderful site that has hosted me for over 3 years now, www.simgames.net . PHP, MySQL, CGI, Perl, and CRon.

Not necessarily that I've been interested in hosting..
A number of my family members have been employed by SBC Global, AOL, IndyNet, AT&T, Comcast, Savvis, and SouthBell. It's in the blood, I didn't get introduced to linux until age 9, from there it kinda blossomed.
I don't recall suggesting that I ever knew more than you about THIS website. Personally, that sounds a little more condescending than anything I ever said. All i need to say is that when it comes to this website, i know more than you....

He's on a dedicated server. I don't think he'd want to downgrade to ad-supported shared hostingIndeed, never ever talk down to people . I have been a moderator of a much larger site (simtropolis.com), but in order for people to listen to you you talk to them as equal .
