Bingo, there can't really be a shortest mountain because the slope can get so short that the shortest mountain might just be where you're standing at any given moment.

Exactly. There is no such thing as a perfectly flat surface if you go down to the atomic level. There could be potentially millions of shortest mountains with a deviation of an atom above the parent surface.

I think you’ll find that the Mariana Trench is the shortest mountain in the world, with a large negative height.

It's in Australia, located in some village, and its "summit" is on top of a boulder. It's around 100 meters tall, I think?
