A replacement that's more fuel efficient and in the pricetag of about 75mil that i can from like 1996 and forward. I've found that the MD-81s arent the best. I just want a quick and cheap replacement. Also in the 140-170 seat capacity.

In 1996 the best option is 737-400 but is bigger than you are looking for. Maybe a mix 734/735.
Another option is A319 starting the production in 1996, but expensive.

A320/B734/8 on routes with more demand, A319/B733/7 on routes with less demand.

Im trying to look for basically a copy of the MD-80 just that with more fuel efficiency, the goal is to get a more fuel efficient aircraft that still doesnt cost to much for maintance and to aquire itself hence "75 million pricetag" So if there's something different than an A320 or A319 or the airbus family overall, then ill look into it

B737-400 and A320 have one of the best fuel economic. Choose one or both.

A good replacement I've found for the MD-81 is the 737-800, and that's what I use. Since it's available from 1998(?) and MD-81 production ends in 1999. The turn times for the 737-800 are a little longer, so you may not get the same frequency, but it has a max seat capacity of 189, versus 172 on the MD-81.
