Well hello there.
So the holidays are coming around and I was planning to spend it with my dad and step-mom who live in Walled Lake, Michigan.

I rarely fly and I've never booked my own flights so I was just wondering if anyone knew any methods or websites or would like to find me a cheap round-trip ticket to Detroit(DTW) from Washington DC(WAS).

Finding a low price is easy but I just have a few nitpicks. If you would like to find me a flight yourself could you please follow these general guidelines when looking for trips.

1. (Dates) Leave: December 24th Return: January 2nd
-Leave day is flexible from the 17th to 24th.
2. (Airports) IAD, DCA, or BWI to DTW
-I am able to leave from one airport and return to a different one.
-Return flights to BWI can be no later than 8pm EST
3. (Airlines) No Spirit. Try to stay away from Delta because they don't offer seat selection for basic economy.
4. Flights during the day are preferred.

No airlines in the US pretty much offer seat selection in Basic Eco anymore. Not Delta, United, American, Frontier, Spirit, Allegiant, any of those and probably a few more I'm missing. Anyhow - I might look into this if I've got the time.

So what I found is mostly flights out of BWI, plus mostly on Delta, with a few Uniteds and Americans thrown in for good measure. Let me know what you think of that. This was with the dates 24th-2nd

This is actually factually wrong. You can purchase a seat with Frontier, Spirit and Allegiant.

Also they arent bad carriers to fly on.

Yes, but he's flying Basic Eco. You can "purchase" a seat on Delta, United and American as well

If you don't want to purchase your seat in advance (I never do), just check in online a day before you fly & you'll be able to pick your seat then.  You generally get to pick just about anywhere you want for free (with the exception of the "preferred" seats with more legroom).

He asked me to book travel for him. You need a credit card to pay for that. I don't see the problem.

I think he meant to give him ideas on which flight and which airline, not actually book it for him.
