Has anybody here ever flown an inaugural flight for a new route being opened up?

My hometown YKA is getting a new direct flight to YYZ, served by Air Canada Rouge (A319-100), which is pretty major news for this airport & I am considering flying it for a summer visit to my dad in Eastern Canada.  I thought it might be fun to do it on opening day, especially if there's something extra involved.  I don't know if AC Rouge would have much fanfare (if any) associated with it as it's a pretty minor route in their grand scheme of things.  Do you know if it's normal to receive certificates of some kind for being on that flight?

Feel free to share your experiences...

I flew on Thai AirAsia's inaugural flight from Pattaya (UTP) to Singapore during the end-November of 2015, nothing really special happened, just an additional reception like every inaugural flight. The flight wasn't full as well. :/ Well 2 years later, I learnt that they stopped flying this route, what a surprise.  :whistling:

The closest I've been is flying on UA38 SIN-LAX within the week it was launched, but not on the actual first flight.

There's no doubt that there would have been some fanfare associated with that one, seeing that it is one of the longest routes in the world & it is the longest route from any American carrier.  Still pretty impressive.

Yeah, I'm sure. Sadly there was no fanfare whatsoever by the time I flew it :P

Wasn't that supposed to launch in January?
