So in R5 there were alot of strong competition just a week ago (in real time), many airlines had hundreds and thousands of aircrafts on order. But now many airlines that used to be top 10 or 20 dropped a lot from the leaderboard, and decreased in valuations for like 30%, and the massive aircraft orders disappeared, as well as a decrease in fleet size. So why's that? Did they just give up? Or is the competition too strong? I suspect that they rented their aircraft and forgot to renew lease?
What caused some airlines to drop in valuations rapidly?

If you click on "view player profile", you can see when they were last online. Although it may not be entirely accurate if the airline is shared.
A clue whether a player has stopped playing is a gradual drop of aircraft utilization rates as more aircraft get delivered.
Some abandoned airlines get their profits eroded fast, as new competitors enter their routes, yet no one is around to reset prices.

Like said pacific.
- Leasing period ended.
- Player is offline for long time.
- Routes Unattended against competitors.
- Expenses of inactive planes.
When you do a massive order of planes and you don't attend the coming planes incur in a expenses because the aircraft must be maintained even if it stopped.
There is a inactivity period, when the player does not attend his airline in a time, the system dissolve the airline and all of their aircraft sold to market.
When a big airline is unattended and the system dissolved it, you could see tons of good aircraft in the market. its very interesting because could be a lottery if you need new aircraft and the factory deliveries are too long. (that help me a lot )

It's a simple strategy that will help you on the long run.
I keep track of competitors' DOP, fleet, and destinations. If their DOP increases (which means an increase in fleet and destinations), that means they're active. If their fleet or destinations decrease, that means they are probably inactive, and I attack their routes (especially once their gate utilization to a destination drops to 0%).
When a large airline shuts down, you can easily tell who picked up a bunch of planes off the used market by tracking their fleet size.

For a time in Rα, I was able to acquire 10 L-1011-200s within a short period to expand service between the Middle East and India, the country where my airline is based. It's a simple strategy that will help you on the long run.
