It looks like we have one or two people willing to volunteer to develop, but whether they have experience with any significant projects is a question we would need to have a solid answer to before letting them actually touch the code this website is built on. I have no development experience myself, but I'd be very hesitant to hand over the reins to someone who hasn't at least done work with some significant, possibly collaborative tasks before. We need at least one experienced programmer who can evaluate other prospective programmers to pick people who are capable and qualified.

We would need a strong project leader to come forward. Relying on the community as a whole to work together would be fine and dandy if this was a subreddit for coders who happen to be interested in aviation. Unfortunately this is not. If nobody from the current moderation team (ie un1 or Maestro) has stepped up to the bat yet, I don't think anybody in the community is either able or willing to take a leadership role. If anyone has any suggestions or nominations though, please prove me wrong.

The problem with that is the people who come forward largely depend on their ego. If someone thinks they're a great leader but they actually aren't and they come forward, that will cause problems.

People are stupid.

Okay but taking Yuxi's opinion may take some time plus an older member or an active AE admin that knows him more personally (e.g active e-mail address, phone number I guess etc. ) should talk to him. Let's keep in mind that we may not get any answer from him.

The point of this thread is to demonstrate several things. First and foremost there is no real leadership at AE.

Since I posted this no moderators have intervened, even when it got hijacked by pre-teens. Yuxi has not weighed in even though I declared him not only dead, but several years dead. I have received no messages from staff, no warning points, and I can still post so I'm not banned.

This is a ship with no captain, first officer, navigator, nothing.

This community has a choice. It can either let this situation continue until the website dies. Or it can put it's big boy pants on and take control for itself and move the game forward, it's happened before and it can happen again.

Which is why I'm putting out a call for a developer. But if willing parties can agree to working in a group then several developers. AE4 was intended to be a complete rebuild of the code from the ground up, and I think that's the best course of action given AE3.1 is a spaghetti mess of PHP and JavaScript code.

What candidates would be committing to is building a new airline simulation game from the ground up. They'll need the coding skill and experience to do this, so if you lack these skills then please stop posting here.

Only when we have somebody who can and will develop the next iteration of AE can we start moving forward with other things like web development for the forums, moderation team, etc etc.

Anybody want to step up?

please don't kill us we're just the aquabats

Okay then. I have one question though which you can answer or not if it's too stupid. Let's suppose that a group of volunteers finally decides to take leadership and to continue development. Where are they going to get the current code from ?

By the way I'd love to work as a volunteer but I've no idea on coding, website designing and basically anything related.

A noticable maturity gap between Marb1, zelalemon, NNR (Danny DeVito), zortan, etc. and the other members of this thread...
Seconded.

apologies

Okay. I understand what you're saying. I did read your entire post before you start saying otherwise. In addition to learning code (don't start what happened on the discord again please), I know several people who are very fluent in coding, and may be willing to volunteer, I'd still have to talk to them. Is this something that you guys would like me to ask around about?

I could probably help, but am saving up for something far more serious (first car, because I can't trust that my parents will cover it)

It's not all about money. As Stevph was saying, we also need people who are fluent in coding.

I'm not that either. I would have to learn JSS from scratch starting right now to have a chance of making the team. My only experience is Python. Which is completely useless here.

Hey - I'm pulling as many strings as I can to try and get someone who is really good at coding to work for free -we'll see though, it's not looking good for those who I've asked already. IDK yet though, there's still hope. If you need a financial donation, I'd ask sometime next year or the year after, I'll most likely be able to do $200-$400 should it be needed. My course does cover some JavaScript, so if you want help in basic things with it, let me know. Also - for some sort of marketing, I can do that if you want (IK i don't have the best reputation but when it matters I can do well). I can also add my skills on anything else needed. Please let me know.

I have no coding experience, but I would be happy to provide and update Aircraft and Airport data for any new work that would be done. I also can do UI design, if that's something we would need.

Oh, also - I am good with data, and can manage data and spreadsheets very well. if you need help with that - please let me know as well. There is a lot of information in this game, aircraft and airport data and the like, so that would be somewhere I can help with.

So now you're judging people by the number of posts they have?

Yeah, usually the more they talk the less they know.

I have received no messages from staff, no warning points, and I can still post so I'm not banned.

A mature administrator don't ban a user for posting what he dislikes. Your idea of who to ban already disqualified you as an administrator.

There are a few airline management projects popping up but they don't suit your taste, what you want is AE3.1 + all the major bugs and exploits introduce by your "great" ideas and only yours. Different developers will have different ideas and they don't agree with each other, that's most likely why there is only one AE developer. You're asking for someone to voluntarily do the work while you control what he does, that's not going to happen.
