Retrofitting has many uses, and it may be a cool addition to Airline Empires. Retrofitting could range from engines, cabin, and the control surfaces (some parts of retrofitting already exist). This could help out airlines that only have the choice to purchase old aircraft to compete with stronger airlines, and it could make this simulator a more enjoyable experience for people who like to preserve aging aircraft. It could be programmed so that aircraft may only be retrofitted to an extent so that it would be controlled.

But understand that aircraft that become too old to keep flying cannot be retrofitted, so after an X amount of years in service, you must scrap it.

That's what the "retrofit to an extent" does.

EAL has a point... A retrofitted passenger plane does nothing as all passenger planes have a certin amount of takeoffs and landings they can do before they cant be used anymore (Normally when cargo airlines take them and turn them into something like BCF models) but I agree it would be a cool feature.

I like it because a lot of airlines do this e.g BA

They do not have a set retirement age. But they do have a set number of flying hours or cycles (takeoff and landing) after which various overhauls are necessary. And as the plane flies more hours and more cycles, the overhauls get more expensive. After a certain amount of time, the cost of the overhaul may be more than the plane is worth. When this occurs will depend on many things, such as the fuel efficiency of the aircraft (older aircraft are less fuel efficient, and fuel is a huge part of flying costs), its noisiness (older aircraft are noisy, and airports ban or restrict noisy aircraft), and even its passenger appeal.

In short, Airlines retire them because their inefficient and uneconomical to be kept in service.
