So it's 1980 in R3, and I have a top ten airline (number five, at the time of writing of this forum post). I have a DC-8 on order as well as some DC-10s. I want to fly transcon from JFK, but my current DC-9-50s can't make it. So I am debating between the DC-8 (my original order) and the DC-10, as well as L1011s or 747s. I am considering canceling my DC-8-73 order.

Here's my airline: http://ae31.airline-...ae3r3&player=10

If you leave a comment as well as answering the poll, please tell me the following

  • Model number (eg DC-8-73 or 747-100)
  • Why I should use that plane

*Update: Canceled DC-8 order, at least it was only one*

Why?

It's cheaper than leasing a Jumbo Jet.

Use Cessna Grand Caravan cuz good range, good passenger count, no fuel flow.

I'm still skeptical about introducing Jumbos to my fleet, because I don't want to end up raking in losses just for operating them. So I instead chose to lease the DC-10 just to feel more confident. Besides, American Airlines got rid of their own Jumbos because they felt the planes were too big and too fuel-thirsty.

I'd go for the Super Seventies tho, it's like a stopgap while you wait for 757 and 767 to enter in service. Also in a mix config it allows for higher frequencies without flooding the route.

i vote for the DC-10 because that was what was used at the time plus it is very economical and popular. L-1011 is not as good, and the 747 is way too big. The DC-8 is too small and it guzzles the gas like crazy!

Hence why I use DC-10s on transcontinental and transatlantic routes and B747s for transpacific routes. In Rα, the B747 would be my flagship plane, whereas the DC-10 serves as the workhorse of the fleet.

It would depend on the demand and where you're flying. I'll use the 747 for routes with more demand, and the DC-10 for routes with less demand.

yes, but the DC-10 generally also has less range than the 747, so that would only work on shorter transatlantic or transpac flights.

What's bad about the L-1011? In AE it's very similar to the DC-10 in terms of price, capacity, and range. So what are its weaknesses?

L-1011 and DC-10 are similar, no big differences.

747 is efficient if you can fill the seats at reasonable prices. Put them on high demand routes.

To be honest if you want to be the top airlines in valuation, you need every plane you can get hold of.
