I've followed videos and tutorials and made very profitable routes with multiple airlines, but for some reason my expenditures always dwarf my earnings. At points, I have millions of dollars going down the drain, even though I'm trying to be cost-effective! Anyone know how to generally get more money?
For some reason, millions and millions of dollars are being spended.

There could be hundreds of reasons of why your airline keeps failing.
If you use that number and give me shared control I can enter your airline and see what seems to be the problem as to why your expenditures dwarf your earnings.

If you go to airline options, then shared control, write 22293 and click save. This allows me to access your airline and help you understand where its all going wrong.

Ok well for starters its a new airline. New airlines with plans for big expansions are guaranteed a loss because of initial starting costs etc.
The main tips is depending on the airline you are aiming for; but the basics remain the same.
- Keep aircraft types to a minimum. The more aircraft types you have, the higher the maintenance cost for the airline and that can have serious negative financial effects.
- Always lease aircraft with the maximum amount of years available, 10 initially. This guarantees a lower monthly lease fee --> thus more profits.
- Keep aircraft utilisation high. the closer to 20 it is, the more money the aircraft is technically making.
The first few months are always the hard ones, where economic strategy are key and vital for a growing airline. Keep costs and aircraft types down while getting the maximum of the aircraft that you have.
Hopefully this all helps.

But I used one aircraft for multiple routes until all of its hours are gone.
By the way, you can't choose how long to lease your aircraft at the start of the game, and how do I change the 'utilisation'?

Okay, seriously. I just started a brand-new airline, barely did ANYTHING, and I have 207,500 DOLLARS in expenses ALREADY?!

What happened here was either gate cost for home airport or first aircraft lease.Okay, seriously. I just started a brand-new airline, barely did ANYTHING, and I have 207,500 DOLLARS in expenses ALREADY?!

Okay, well, any way to resolve that?

Utilize gates to their maximum potential, as much as you can. This is especially true with big airports.
I looked at your airlines and here's what I found:
-Difference Air has 5 unused gates at Canberra, and you're running ancient aircraft. It's not a good idea to run such old aircraft because maintenance costs will kill you. Aircraft are usually at their best for 10-12 years.
-R-delta DelSol is running tiny aircraft. The way AE's algorithm works, aircraft with less than like 20 seats are totally unprofitable. And you're running one or two examples of a bunch of aircraft, when multiple of one model would be fine.
-R-delta Clipper Air could use some replacement of old clunkers in the fleet.
-R3 Clipper is totally inactive.
Also, rule of thumb: do NOT expand rapidly when you're just starting out. The expenses of such rapid expansion will again kill you.

There are some problems with this reply.
First off, I essentially have to expand, because otherwise the current airports will produce little to no money which will make me go bankrupt faster.
In addition, the airline I am currently focusing on (a brand-new one called Tabitha Air) is starting off in the 1960s, which makes old aircraft the only ones available. Therefore, I can't fix that problem.

Not at the rate you insist on. And by old, I mean don't run CARAVELLES in TWO THOUSAND EIGHTEEN.

My advice when starting late game in a 50s/60s world would be to just terminate the starting aircraft lease.
Take out a bond or two and lease 4-8 (depending on cost) of one aircraft E.G. 4-8 B737-300s. (The used market should be ripe for the picking that late in a game)
Avoid competition if possible, if that means searching out the low demand routes bigger airlines can't be bothered with then so be it.
Keep a reserve of cash. You are going to incur expenses, that's going to happen in any business start up. All those planes you just routed? Yeah they need pilots/ cabin crew/ mechanics etc They all need trained which costs money.

Okay, listen. The airline I'm currently trying to focus on is set in the 1960's. IGNORE the other ones. The 737-300 is not on the market, and if I take out any bonds, that's just a million more dollars into my expenses. If I avoid competition by going on small, low-demand routes, well, the demand will be low, and that will make little to no money.
Also, whenever I try to operate at any airport, I have to lease a gate, which costs more and more even though I'm barely trying to expand.

Okay, so let's think this through.
I restarted the airline, and:
I have a starting choice of either a DC-7, Tu-104, L-188A, or an F-27. There are no planes on the lease market, so which do I pick? And what HQ is the best?
