Honestly, this is troubling. I play AE because it is free. If I could pay for a game, I would be on AirwaySim. Simple as that. Even if AE became paid, I'd be on AirwaySim.

As we all know Airline Empires is designed, built and maintained by one person: Yuxi. Now by his good graces Yuxi (and the website staff) had set up AE to operate off donations and ad revenue allowing it to be completely free to use assuming you have an internet connection.
That needs to change. Pronto.
The last major update to the game was the addition of seat configs to airline pages for all to see, and that was years ago. AE4, which I'm convinced is actually a myth at this point, has been in development for years now with no completion date in sight. Now none of this is the fault of one man developing a game in his spare time pro bono, and I'm surprised he's doing it in the first place.
The solution: more manpower to push AE development along, and that means we need to start paying.
So my proposal is this: A fee to use the forums. A fee to play the game. Super simple stuff. I pay an amount, it could be monthly it could be a one time thing, and I have the ability to use the forums. The precedent is the setup airlines.net used for years. Plus it'd cut down on all the stupid s*** people post all the goddamn time. On a community as large as AE, a stipend to anybody who wants to help develop AE could be paid out and as we all know money is the ultimate incentive.
I'd ask for your thoughts but I can already hear the bitching and moaning.
No, absolutely not. I don't think the solution is to pay; the reason I play AE is because it is free. I think the solution is for us to try to help chip in, do some coding, do some beta testing. Also you have to remeber ad revenue.

Don't be silly Denver, you don't even have a '98 Toyota Corolla, let alone two Rolls Royces!
As regards the topic however, no. I couldn't see this site becoming a paid for site, especially if the developers haven't said it themselves that they need help. Believe me, I'd gladly donate a reasonable fee to keep this site up (if it would improve the quality of moderation *coughs*) but it'll kill off users. They won't want to use the site. The site is already losing users quicker and quicker ever since chat was taken off of the site, and moved onto a different website.

What we are saying is that 70-80% of the Airline Empires community does not have the financial means to spend money on a stupid game. I personally don't think that AE is stupid, but we came here for a reason. These 70-80% of players never would be here in the first place if it wasn't for being free. I don't know how much you're planning on making it, but if it's a dollar a day for example then that's 30 dollars a month or 365 dollars a year. Sure, that may not be too much for some people but that's 1/4 of a car where I'm from. I could use that money for something else. And I hate credit cards and putting them in online. There's so much money put into interest for that card, and it just sucks. I'm going to college in a year. My bank account is thinner than I am, which is saying something. I'm not looking for a handout. That's not how it works. AE is a free game because the developers have made it that way. If your own impatience could get out of the way, you would see that not everyone is where you are.

Would now be a bad time to inform you that this entire thread (and basically everything I've said in it) is one big piss take?
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the fact I volunteered on the Bernie campaign for president.

If you like to keep it as a game then keep it free and deal with the fact that no development is being made.
Ok.
The best idea for AE is to improve its ad revenue.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO. What where saying is that we wouldn't pay real world money and/or dont want a PTW system in AE! If you like this game so much why dont you PM yuxi asking him to add a donate feature?

Please, I don't have money
If this game is paid, there will be no one interest in this game
So, please no

Because it's fun, cheap and incredibly easy to get folks worked up over nothing.

Charge $12 dollars year. Block out IFE/IFS for those who don't pay. Maybe even force standard seat configs so you have to run a 'lcc' concept. If you pay you get access to extra forum areas, a cool badge, and IFE/IFS/Seatconfig and some other useless, features that won't hamper "free play".
I'd pay.

So much LCC competition without seat configs... why not have separate worlds for paying players (like that gallery world I proposed a few months ago)
