I agree with this. The Falklands War is a historical event that just can not push away. Yes the discussion will might get a little bit heated because people have different views on what actually happened and who actually "owns" the islands, but by having an open discussion where personal views gets shared is important in order to understand each other even though people might disagree. It makes us more open-minded and respect that other people have a different view and thought than yourself.

I am not that into the Falklands War and the current affairs there, but I support having an open discussion about both political and historical events even though some of these events might be controversial for some.

The current affairs forum is "intended for the civil exchange of views and ideas regarding world affairs" so the thread about the Falklands Islands should be open (unless the discussion ends up with personal attacks and such) as most other topics there. There is even topics that are far more controversial that is open, but this is not.

They have, a lot of it. The US didn't take part in the war but they helped the UK with resources, money and weapons. Many british oil companies are now extracting oil from the seabed and the US gets its share at a quite reduced price if not free

Honestly, improved moderation of the topic would be better. In the War Thunder forums mods are everywhere, in flame wars they just edit or remove the posts and the conversation continues. If it works then we can all have a good discussion.

They are very close NATO allies, and they both have veto power in the UN. They just can't attack each other. They can't ruin their alliance just for a pair of islands in the South Atlantic no matter how much oil they have. So, despite Britain is a military superpower already, the US sent them money, resources and weapons in exchange for a generous cut of the extracted oil if they won. We were the ones that had the balls to fight despite the odds were against us
