IMO Puerto Rico could become a major Caribbean hub, so what if it already had its own established airline to promote travel and tourism there? How many destinations would it serve? What aircraft would it use? How big would its fleet be? Would it be a part of an airline alliance? If so, which alliance? Feel free to comment👌

Puerto Rico Airways was founded in 1979. Up until its disestablishment in 2014, it operated a fleet of 11 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. It served 24 destinations in the US, Canada and the Caribbean. It started quite successfully but could not compete with other carriers on its US routes and was losing money on Canadian and Caribbean routes, and despite several changes of CEO, they eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2014, leaving hundreds stranded.

Or something

I feel like instead of asking 9 million of these questions, maybe you could help us by doing some research and presenting your own opinion on these matters as well, instead of expecting other people to that work for you so you can read their responses. I suspect the responses you would get and the overall discussion would be much richer as well.

I'm still thinking of other potential markets for new airlines in the real world, but I've research a lot on Google with minimal results. So that's why I ask these kinds of questions. (Any more ideas?)

US customs would want to extend influence and check every passenger transiting most likely. In theory they could set up a segregated area where you can't access US customs and only a mini-PR immigration post... But this is very unlikely as all items would still need to clear US customs (though not US immigration) to continue on as it's considered importing. :/

It wouldn't make sense to use SJU as a hub for the rest of the Caribbean and South America. It's too far east and north for planes coming the rest of the Caribbean Islands to just transfer to another island in the opposite direction. It would make sense coming from Europe perhaps or from the North Eastern US. Plus there's so many direct flights from Europe and the US to places like Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Barbados, Aruba etc. Then you have Miami, which is a huge hub for AA and a lot of Caribbean and South American carriers fly direct there.
