Keep your hands away from the keyboard for a sec. Hear me here. So, I was thinking, what if the devs, with someone else's help, made a version you would have to pay for, that also had several new features and improvements? For example, spamlines could be banned, more planes etc. could be put into the paid version, and it would get more popularity. People who aren't sure can play this, and if they like it they can buy the full game. A better UI could be introduced, as well as new features and mechanics, like, selecting the specific seat will affect popularity, lower salaries lead to strikes, route planning in advance etc.

Doubt it will happen, but as a concept it sounds nice imo.

This has been suggested before, but I'm not going to write it off because of that. However, I will write it off because of this.

Airline Empires is not AirwaysSim.

Your suggestions make it basically indistinguishable from other airline management games. It would not be practical, as the competition, I must say, is better. Airline Empires is appealing because it's free and because it's easy to play. If a paid version was available, people who have the money would most likely take a look at AirwaysSim too. People would realize the extreme detail of AirwaysSim and I bet more than 50% of people would choose AirwaysSim. That's why this hasn't happened yet, I think. I might be wrong, but this could at least be a contributing factor.

I would suggest opening an online store for merchandise which could be purchased like T-shirts and Key chains etc. This could be bought by any member of AE and funds would go to further development programs. This has been suggested before and I would like to see this live. We could exhibit various types of merchandise like Caps, Cups and other AE Branded things.

No, Denver, no, think of the logistical nightmare this would create, ensuring stock, taking payment, dispatching the order, even drop shipping is still not really worth the hassle.

Right. I was just stating it cause back in the days they were actual plans to create one, sadly it never went further. Moving on, AE is better as is it Free and Fun :)

I really like Denver's idea. With that maybe development could be quicker. Who knows though.

100% agree on the merchandise store - what about a Spreadshirt et al. type store? Low start up costs and easy maintenance?
