Anatolian Airways unveils new corporate identity

November 21, 2003

This afternoon, Anatolian Airways revealed a new livery on one of its new Airbus A340-600 aircraft just after it joined National Alliance, signaling a new direction in the airline's long-term future. The new livery incorporates a new purple and gold color scheme and simpler, more minimalist design elements.

As the first Turkish airline to join National, Anatolian passengers now have access to one of the most extensive alliance networks in the world, allowing for easier connectivity with existing member airlines. Anatolian currently serves 149 domestic and international destinations from its world-class hub at Antalya Airport.

We are also pleased to announce new long-haul destinations to Dallas, Houston, Miami, San Francisco, Toronto, and Washington, D.C. as we continue to order more A340-600 aircraft to expand our international fleet.

I made the original design myself, but that image I posted was a replica made by Visionair.

Anatolian Airways reports decline in profits

January 1, 2005

Anatolian Airways has reported a $110 million loss by the end of 2004, which is a 40 percent drop in profit margins since 2003. According to aviation industry analysts, the decline was attributed to rising fuel prices, stagnation in demand for long-haul air travel, and a fragile domestic market that has failed to attract a lot of new flyers.

The airline has temporarily put its expansion plans on hold as it now shifts its focus toward implementing a turnaround plan and returning to profitability.

Anatolian Airways to retire all A300-600 and A340-300 aircraft, end service to 7 destinations

August 1, 2005

In an effort to raise enough reserve cash to keep flying, Anatolian Airways has officially announced the retirement of its remaining A300-600 and A340-300 aircraft.

The move was prompted after Anatolian recorded seven consecutive months operating at a loss which totaled more than $110 million at the end of July, which was partly due to rising maintenance costs owing to the age of the retired planes. Prior to retirement, the two A300-600s and four A340-300s in the fleet were the oldest planes still in service, ranging between 8 and 11 years old.

The retirement of those aircraft will also mean terminating service to Antananarivo, Jakarta, Kampala, Karachi, Lahore, Saint-Denis, and Tokyo.

Anatolian also plans to lay off hundreds of employees as it concentrates on streamlining operational expenses as part of its restructuring. Meanwhile, expansion plans have already been put on hold during the turnaround process.

Anatolian Airways to end service to Dhaka and 5 Indian, 2 South African destinations

September 2, 2005

After reporting a $16 million loss the previous month, Anatolian Airways will be terminating flights to Dhaka and several Indian and South African destinations as it continues to wind down expenses under financial restructuring.

The terminated Indian destinations include Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai; in South Africa, Cape Town and Durban are on the list. The move also comes after the airline decided to retire its 11- and 12-year-old Airbus A330-300 planes amid skyrocketing fuel and maintenance costs.

In addition, Anatolian will continue shrinking its employee base in an effort to reduce labor costs and improve staff performance.

Anatolian Airways leases four Airbus A340-600s

January 12, 2006

Anatolian Airways has confirmed its lease of four new Airbus A340-600 aircraft as it gradually progresses with its turnaround plan.

With ample reserve cash in hand, Anatolian can now resume its long-haul expansion plans to North America and expand its employee base. Restoration of discontinued routes are currently on the books, as well as possible expansion to Latin America.
