I would like to suggest the following changes to AE:

- when airline goes bankrupt first it should go on auction (the entire airline) and the other players should be allowed to get it thru some sort of auction.

- if nobody wants or able to acquire the entire airline, the other players should be able to get airports / terminals at auctions and aircrafts should go for sale as usual

 

Also, how about adding cargo demand to airports and introduce cargo planes?

Your first idea seems like it would be easily open to abuse by people looking to get around political restrictions, also most bankrupt airlines tend to no longer have any aircraft in the first place.
