Anyone else have experience ordering from Same-Family aircraft groups. Generally when I order B737 or A320 aircraft, I tend to order 2 of each aircraft and alternate between them to quickly mass up on those types of aircraft. Anyone else have any experience on stacking such as this, or do you just order a single aircraft and order another variant separately?

I assume you mean ordering different variants within the B737 or A320 range? For example, B737-700 & -800, or A320 & A321? Yeah, that gets tricky. You've obviously figured out that once you order a quantity of one variant, you cant get the other until all the first orders are delivered. Alternating orders is a bit of work. Or you could just pick which one you prefer the most. After a substantial part of the game world has elapsed, there's usually lots of them all in the used market anyway.

If I'm trying to have a "real" airline, I'm patient and wait for only one aircraft family. If I want to flood the market I won't take only 2 types but as many as possible...

My experience is that I avoid doing this.

One family - one role.

You lose your purchase/lease discounts when ordering small amounts of each

Most families have a clear cut favorite. On the 737 in AE, you wouldn't really ever order the 500 over the 400, unless you really needed that extra short runway capability and 100 miles of range of the 500. Since most aircraft of the same range+size group tend to be similar in speed, your main concern becomes capacity and fuel flow. I class my planes by range groups, never using the absolute maximum because then you run into trouble should you want to replace them.

If a superior model is on the way, you can always buy out family production until the first delivery of the new model.

In the end, picking the single best model of the family and then ordering them in quantity to get the maximum discount is the most ideal approach, at least for AE.

I find it easier to order one size Boeing and one size Airbus for the flexibility of scheduling and order larger quantities for better pricing.
