My airline, Aqualantic Express, is replacing older (owned) A330-300s with new (also owned) A330-900neos. After replacing a few routes, I realized the new aircraft wasn't making as much money as the older one. They are in the same cabin configuration, 6F, 48C and 296Y. Does anyone know why this is happening? (I couldn't find another thread on this, if there is I am sorry. This is my first post!)

Have you tried hitting the save button again? That causes the route to recalculate (the system will do it over time). I find that usually works and I get the lower fuel costs etc being factored in.

When I replace a plane I would use an aircraft that is the same range of the old one or close to the same range. If you use more seats on the newer aircraft then it will lower the passengers and more seats will be empty. This is the best I can explane when I replace aircraft

On your route change a couple of flights to the A339 and leave some as A333, and then you will see clearly the cost difference in the flights tab.

Its the whopping great pruce tag on the neos that makes them inferior to the original.

dazwalsh is correct.  As far as efficiency is concerned, the two planes are very similar, the A339 is marginally more efficient than the A333, but because they're so much more expensive, you're paying a higher rate of depreciation as well as a higher maintenance payment, which will eat in to the monthly profit you can make off them (if you were leasing, it would be more than double the lease payment also).  The A339 may also have slightly higher crew cost, landing fee cost, & other fees cost.

The price difference is just too massive to ignore, which is why I feel that the A333 is one of the best widebodies in the game.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Will just let my batch of NEOs finish delivery and then buy more regular A330s. Sorry for the confusion, this is my first airline on Airline Empires so I am still learning the basics.

So what you are saying is that A339 is not a good plane compared to A333

The A339 is a good plane, but the A333 is better.

Their stats are nearly the same (A339 is a bit longer range though) but a new A333 costs $125 million whereas a new A339 is $284 million!!!  The slight improvements aren't worth over double the cost.

Is there a typo in this game or is it just what it is? I am talking about the price

It is what it is.  You have to remember that the A330-300 came out in the early nineties.  Inflation has caused prices to rise over the years.  A new A330-300 now would cost quite a bit more in real life (see link).

The game doesn't really seem to take inflation into account in the later years, so the older (still in-production) aircraft that are efficient are real winners (the really old aircraft are priced higher to compensate though).  Even a less efficient Il-96-400 isn't a bad choice when you consider how cheap the purchase price is (the turn time is crazy though).  I find A330-300s to be one of the best aircraft in the game for me & don't even bother with A330-900s.

So what we've learned today is that AE needs to account for inflation.

Yeah basically, although I can imagine that it would be pretty hard from a programming standpoint.
