Barely enough room for another airline in the New Zealand market. Air New Zealand, historically has served the country for well over 70 years, I'm not sure introducing a private airline will do any good (As we've seen with Kiwi Regional whose aircraft were sold to ANZ Link). Air NZ's monopoly is slowly crumbling with the new AA-QF partnership as with more Transpacific flights (YVR-SYD with AC etc.)
New Zealand really only needs one carrier to serve the nation's domestic routes. JetStar has tried to enter the market however it's just too small. Prices are fairly good with an average one-way to Wellington from Auckland for $40-50 on JQ and $60-70 on NZ.

There is indeed a competitor there now. Cashed-up Qantas is using Jetstar to kick some serious butt.

New Zealand is too small for another airline. That is why there is only one US carrier that flied to New Zealand, Hawaiian Airlines.
