Hi,

I'm going to show you how to make liveries with paint.net (That's what I use too ^_^).

LINK TO PAINT.NET:

http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

DOWNLOAD THIS:

http://download-code...000&Build=21031

Follow the instructions in the readme.

Templates by Medviation:

http://www.airline-e...-download-here/

Download the templates you like and open those in Paint.net AFTER you've put the photoshop.dll in your paint net directory. These templates are recommended to use, because they're the best quality you could get I think.

TUTORIAL:

Lets start, I'm going to create a simple livery.

I use a Boeing 737-800WL, because I like the template. :D

If you open the template, it should look like this:

Attached File  naamloos.png   310.72KB   32 downloads

Switch FUSELAGE_METAL and FUSELAGE around. If you like a metal livery, do not switch them around.

Attached File  naamloos.png   295.29KB   24 downloads

I'm making a red stripe, because why not. :P

Use the stripe tool to do this or the tool to make a rectangle.

Attached File  naamloos.png   452.89KB   24 downloads

Now it looks like this.

I'm painting the tail red too. Select the TAIL layer and the filling tool. Then click on the tail.

Attached File  naamloos.png   264.04KB   12 downloads

I like to make the fuselage under the red stripe less grey. In order to do this, select grey and press 'more'. Put the switch a bit to the white side and the grey becomes lighter.

Attached File  naamloos.png   279.84KB   11 downloads

Select the filling tool again and select the FUSELAGE layer again. Then press under the red stripe and thet part becomes grey.

Attached File  naamloos.png   264.16KB   10 downloads

Now we need a name for the airline. I use Livery Tutorial Airlines for this tutorial. Go to the T in rhe toolbar and press it. Select a font you like and how big you want it to be. (I've downloaded a few fonts). I use Century Gothic for this airline.

Attached File  naamloos.png   355.84KB   6 downloads

Start typing with the color you want.

Attached File  naamloos.png   378.61KB   8 downloads

I use for the logo just the initials LTA. Select the TAIL layer and put your logo on it. If your logo is a .png file, make another layer on top of the TAIL layer and paste it in there,

Attached File  naamloos.png   274.79KB   8 downloads

Go to the ENGINE layer and make it the color you like. Do the same with the WINGLET layer.

To make your background, make another layer and put it under the last layer. I make my backround always grey/white-ish, but for this tutorial I make it just white :)

Attached File  naamloos.png   260.6KB   13 downloads

Save it as JPG or JPEG and upload it to your airline.

I hope it helped. :)

If you have any questions, please reply then.

Jean-Paul

you can upload as .png to the AE client, but they'll be converted to .jpg

Make/use a .png logo.

1) Create another layer on top of the TAIL logo, this is a transparent layer.

2) Paste the logo in that layer and put it on the tail.

I hope this has helped for you! :D

How do you make your logos? Because they're quite impressive.

Look for inspiration on for example Google and try something you like. :)

Inkscape is a great resource too. Its a vector graphics program (free), which makes a huge difference in being able to scale up and down logos and such.

Also, using the "curves" tool allows you to modify colors without losing the nice feathering effect that prevents the edges from looking too rough

I know, but this is a 'simple' tutorial for Paint.net and for people that are new to livery making! :)

How were you able to paint a stripe without it overriding the wing? I simply cannot do that.

You have to put the stripe on the 'Fuselage' layer. :)
